Job description

Vanguard is seeking a senior communications leader to shape and elevate the firm’s Fixed Income narrative at an enterprise scale. The Head of Fixed Income Communication Strategy will set and execute enterprise level communications strategies that strengthen Vanguard’s reputation, influence key stakeholders, and support critical business priorities across market cycles. This role leads a high performing, multidisciplinary communications team and serves as a trusted advisor to senior investment leadership, including direct executive communications support to Vanguard’s Head of Fixed Income. The successful candidate brings deep investment acumen, exceptional judgment, and the ability to translate complex Fixed Income concepts into clear, compelling narratives across internal and external channels.

Responsibilities
  • Leads and oversees development of fixed income communications strategies with a company-wide perspective to enable strategic business outcomes. Leads the communication development, operation, delivery, and measurement across a variety of business needs.
  • Drives the impact of the collective communication strategy. Ensures the execution of all phases of the communications process, including conception, implementation, and measurement. Pushes the team to measure communications progress and opportunities.
  • Drives the development of communication agendas with high-quality communications material across a variety of formats, platforms and channels. Drives the development of new channels as appropriate.
  • Serves as Executive Communications support for Vanguard's Head of Fixed Income.
  • Protects Vanguard's reputation through all communications across various channels and platforms. Leads team to proactively source and deliver business-critical communications.
  • Partners closely with senior leaders to advise and develop communications strategies and ensures messaging is integrated and aligned across communications channels. Provides strategic communications counsel for executive leaders.
  • Responsible for hiring and cultivating a team of multi-disciplinary communications professionals who work collaboratively with all partners. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Balances external practice with internal brand. Serve as a Vanguard authority on industry best practices, emerging trends, and their validity in Vanguard's environment and culture to encourage adoption as appropriate.
  • Develops and strengthens working relationships with key influencers, partners, and executives across the organization and in the industry to support communications and business objectives.
  • Spearheads continuous improvements in Vanguard's communication strategy and implementation. Measures and monitors client satisfaction and makes recommendations based on feedback gathered from various sources.
  • Influences communications prioritization, sequencing, and message alignment across the enterprise.
  • Collaborates seamlessly with key partners including those throughout Communications, Marketing, Product and Investment teams.
  • Inspires direct and broader Communications Strategy team to be innovative, ambitious, and execute exceptionally.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 15 years related work experience, including strategic communications and media relations experience preferred. Deep investment acumen and supervisory experience required.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Fixed Income markets, including rates, credit, and macroeconomic dynamics, with the ability to confidently engage investment leaders and translate market insights for diverse stakeholder audiences.
  • Proven experience providing direct executive communications support to senior investment leaders, including message development for market commentary, thought leadership, internal investment updates, and high-profile external engagements.
  • Strong track record leading global or enterprise-scale communications programs, with experience coordinating across regions, time zones, and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience navigating market volatility and periods of heightened scrutiny, including communications support during market stress, portfolio repositioning, or major economic events.
  • Exceptional strategic judgment and storytelling capability, with the ability to synthesize complex investment strategies and performance narratives into clear, credible, and differentiated messaging aligned with Vanguard’s long-term investment philosophy.
