Overview
The Complex Director of Finance is the senior finance leader responsible for providing strategic and operational financial oversight across a multi-asset hospitality portfolio, including a complex mixed-use hotel. This role combines on-property leadership with off-property governance responsibility, requiring advanced financial judgment, strong control discipline, and the ability to lead through structured oversight and partnership. The Complex Director of Finance is accountable for profitability, cash flow management, accurate and timely financial reporting, robust internal controls, regulatory compliance, and the safeguarding of hotel, owner, and investor assets. The role serves as a key business partner to ownership, asset management, executive leadership, and on-site accounting management.
Responsibilities
  • Financial Leadership & Reporting
    • Provide comprehensive financial leadership for full-service hotel operations and a remotely overseen mixed-use hotel and condominium asset.
    • Review and approve monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and supporting schedules for hotel and condominium entities.
    • Ensure proper accounting treatment, segregation, and consolidation of hotel, condominium association, and owner-related transactions.
    • Maintain financial governance and reporting accuracy across both onsite and remote operations.

    Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
    • Oversee cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and banking relationships across all assigned assets.
    • Review accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash balances, owner distributions, condo assessments, and reserve funding activity.
    • Ensure operating forecasts support business objectives, ownership expectations, and long-term financial stability.

    Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
    • Lead and approve annual operating budgets, capital budgets, and long-range (5-year) plans for hotel and condominium operations.
    • Review monthly variance analysis versus budget and prior year; challenge assumptions and recommend corrective actions.
    • Analyze financial and operational data to support profitability, cost control, and return on investment for owners and condominium associations.

    Compliance, Controls & Risk Management
    • Establish and enforce financial governance standards across both onsite and remotely managed operations.
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, management company SOPs, brand standards, and condominium governing documents.
    • Oversee internal control frameworks covering purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, fixed assets, payroll, and employee records.
    • Safeguard hotel, owner, investor, and condominium association assets.

    Balance Sheet & Audit Oversight
    • Review and approve balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations.
    • Provide executive oversight of internal and external audits, coordinating with CPA firms and ensuring timely delivery and resolution of audit requests.
    • Oversee condominium reserve accounts, capital replacements, and compliance with HOA reserve requirements.

    Executive & Stakeholder Collaboration
    • Partner closely with General Managers, Executive Committees, asset managers, and ownership to ensure financial discipline and alignment.
    • Maintain a structured communication cadence with on-site accounting leadership supporting the remotely overseen asset.
    • Proactively identify and address financial, compliance, or operational risks impacting performance.
    • Participate in strategic planning, special projects, and ownership-driven initiatives.

    Team Leadership & Development
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and performance oversight to on-site finance and accounting teams, including an Accounting Manager supporting the mixed-use asset.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement across the finance function.
    • Support talent development and succession planning within a multi-asset structure.

    Recurring Reporting Cadence
    • Weekly: A/R & A/P Aging, Flash Reports, Payroll Reports, Revenue Updates
    • Monthly: Financial Statements, Forecasts, Key Statistics Reports, Cash Flow Statements
    • Annual: Operating Budgets, 5-Year Plans, 5-Year Capital and Reserve Plans
    • Execute additional duties and complex financial projects as assigned by ownership or executive leadership.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive hospitality finance and accounting experience; senior leadership experience preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Controller or Director of Finance, preferably within a full-service, premium-branded, or mixed-use hotel environment.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing complex assets and/or remote finance operations.
  • Strong understanding of hotel accounting, internal controls, and audit requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or related field required.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and hotel/condo accounting systems and financial reporting platforms.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
