How do I become a fit model?

To become a fit model, you typically need to have a body measurement profile that matches the company's target size, often requiring specific measurements for bust, waist, hips, and height. Experience in fashion or modeling can be helpful, and some fit models work on a freelance basis or through modeling agencies. Maintaining a consistent body size and being available for fittings are essential for success in this role.

What are fit models?

Fit models are individuals employed by clothing manufacturers and designers to try on garments during the design and production process. Their primary role is to help ensure that the clothing fits and looks good on real people, and to provide feedback on comfort, movement, and appearance. Fit models typically match specific body measurements that represent the target customer for a brand. They work closely with designers, pattern makers, and technical teams to perfect the fit before garments go into mass production.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

A fit model can earn around $4,000 per week by testing clothing fit and providing feedback to designers, often requiring minimal formal education but strong communication skills and industry knowledge. High-paying freelance or contract roles in sales, real estate, or skilled trades like plumbing or electrical work can also reach this income level without a degree, depending on experience and market demand.

What are the typical challenges a Fit Model faces during fittings, and how can they be addressed?

Fit Models often encounter challenges such as standing for long periods, maintaining consistent body measurements, and providing clear feedback to designers. It's important to communicate comfort and mobility concerns honestly, as this helps the design team make necessary adjustments. Additionally, Fit Models may need to adapt to varying schedules and work with multiple brands, requiring flexibility and professionalism. Staying fit, following a healthy lifestyle, and building strong communication skills can help address these challenges and ensure a successful career in this role.

What Is a Fit Model?

A Fit Model, or Fitting Model, helps clothing designers in the initial stages of garment design. As a Fit Model, your responsibilities include communicating with the designers and manufacturers about how the clothing fits and how the fabric feels, providing feedback about potential adjustments. You also must maintain your weight and measurements so that you provide a consistent form for the designers. A Fit Modeling job is generally much longer than other model work, like photo shoots and fashion shows. It can take a long period of time to perfect garments, requiring you to make ongoing visits to the designer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fit Model, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fit Model, you need to maintain specific body measurements that match industry sample sizes and possess a basic understanding of garment construction and fit. Familiarity with sizing charts, fitting procedures, and sometimes experience with 3D body scanning tools are typically required. Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback are vital soft skills that set successful fit models apart. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure accurate garment sizing, effective communication with design teams, and the overall quality of fashion products.

How much do you make as a fit model?

Fit models typically earn between $15 and $50 per hour, depending on experience, the complexity of the garments, and the company. Some fit models work on a freelance basis, while others are employed full-time or part-time by fashion brands or manufacturers. Compensation can also include benefits or per-project payments for specific fittings or collections.

What is a fit model job?

A fit model is a person hired by clothing manufacturers or designers to evaluate the fit, drape, and overall appearance of garments during the development process. They typically have specific body measurements and work closely with pattern makers and sample sewers, often on a flexible schedule. The role requires good communication skills and attention to detail to ensure clothing fits the target market.

What is the difference between Fit Model vs Pattern Maker?

Job description

Job Title: 3D Printing Lab Technician / Model Builder

Job Code: 39808

Job Location: Salt Lake City, UT

Job Schedule: 9/80 (employee's work 9 out of every 14 days - totaling 80 hours worked - and have every other Friday off)

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled 3D Printing Lab Technician / Model Builder to lead day-to-day operations of our additive manufacturing lab and produce high-quality demonstration models, mockups, fixtures, and test assets that support engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing activities. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical expert with exceptional CAD skills, strong mechanical aptitude, and deep experience with both polymer and metal additive processes.

This is not a product manufacturing role. Instead, the focus is on building accurate, realistic representative models and support hardware used in design reviews, manufacturing readiness reviews, demonstrations, fit checks, test activities, and related internal programs. The ideal candidate will combine strong digital modeling capability with practical lab execution, printer maintenance, and workload management.

Essential Functions:

  • Run the daily operations of the 3D print lab, including managing print queues, setting priorities, and balancing scheduled work with walk-in demand
  • Create, prepare, modify, and optimize CAD models for additive manufacturing, with Siemens NX preferred
  • Produce high-quality demonstration items, representative product models, fixtures, mockups, and test support assets
  • Support large model builds and complex print jobs from setup through post-processing and final delivery
  • Select appropriate print methods, materials, orientations, support strategies, and finishing approaches based on intended use
  • Operate additive systems across polymer and metal printing workflows, including setup, build monitoring, post-processing coordination, and quality checks
  • Maintain high printer utilization while making sound decisions about schedule, urgency, and available machine capacity
  • Perform routine printer maintenance and upkeep, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with service contractors to minimize downtime
  • Manage raw material inventory to ensure adequate stock levels, proper storage, rotation, and expiration control
  • Track lab usage, machine health, and material needs to support efficient operations and planning
  • Attend additive manufacturing conferences, monitor emerging technologies, and help develop capital requests for new printers, materials, and capabilities
  • Help evaluate and bring new capabilities in-house, including multi-material printing, carbon fiber printing, and advanced metal printing options such as dual-alloy processes

Required Qualifications (one of the following):

  • High school diploma, technical certification, associate degree, or equivalent hands-on experience in additive manufacturing, model making, fabrication, or a related field

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Exceptional CAD skills with experience creating accurate, production-quality 3D models; Siemens NX strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with polymer additive manufacturing processes such as FDM, MJF, and DLS
  • Familiarity with metal additive manufacturing, including aluminum printing workflows and handling considerations
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving ability
  • Experience producing realistic, high-quality physical models that accurately represent final products or assemblies
  • Ability to manage multiple requests, shifting priorities, and a high-mix workload with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for working with engineering, manufacturing, and program teams
  • Experience running or coordinating a shared additive manufacturing lab or model shop
  • Experience with post-processing, finishing, assembly, and cosmetic improvement of printed parts and presentation models
  • Experience creating fixtures, jigs, and other support hardware for engineering or manufacturing teams
  • Exposure to additive technology scouting, vendor engagement, and capital equipment planning
  • Familiarity with advanced or emerging additive capabilities such as continuous fiber reinforcement, multi-material systems, or dual-alloy metal printing

Work Environment and Additional Requirements:

  • This role may require occasional evening or weekend work to support large builds, urgent requests, or maximize printer utilization
  • The role involves hands-on work in a lab environment, including moving materials, working around equipment, and following established safety procedures for additive manufacturing operations
