Job description

Our client is currently hiring a Food Processing Plant Mechanic for their Cape May, NJ location in the Maintenance department. The Food Processing Plant Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical equipment used in food manufacturing and packaging. The ideal candidate will be skilled, reliable, and experienced in industrial maintenance, including work with food-grade equipment, conveyors, pumps, mixers, and automated systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on plant machinery and equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and implement effective repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems related to food processing equipment.
  • Install and align new equipment according to manufacturer specifications and food safety standards.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and part usage using CMMS or maintenance logs.
  • Collaborate with production and sanitation teams to ensure equipment meets operational and hygiene standards.
  • Assist in the development of maintenance procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to all safety, GMP, and food safety regulations.
  • Participate in equipment upgrades, plant expansions, and special projects as assigned.

Minium Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • High school diploma or GED required, technical school or associate degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanics and proper use of both power and hand tools.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including belts, chains, gearboxes, bearings, and shafts preferred.
  • Familiarity with welding, machining, and fabrication is a plus.
  • Understanding of food safety practices, HACCP, and sanitary design principles preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to communicate via our WhatsApp group text.
  • Physical Demands & Work Environment:

    • Must be able to work the day shift. Start and stop times will vary, based on production. The basic shift is 8:00 AM to 5:00 pm. During height production seasons (currently going on), this position will be working six days a week.
    • Must be comfortable working in hot, cold, wet, and noisy environments.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Must be able to work at heights or in confined spaces if needed.
    • Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
