Job description

Trainer

At First Student, safety is at the heart of everything we do. Our Trainers play a critical role in preparing new drivers for the road, supporting current employees, and ensuring our teams meet company, state, and federal safety requirements.

This is a hands-on position for someone who can confidently lead classroom instruction, provide behind-the-wheel training, and build strong working relationships with employees at all levels.

Your Responsibilities

As a Trainer, you will:

  • Provide classroom and behind-the-wheel training to new drivers

  • Conduct refresher and remedial training for current drivers

  • Deliver additional safety and compliance training to location employees

  • Track attendance and maintain accurate training documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements

  • Assist with accident investigations, safety meetings, compliance forms, and other location safety programs

  • Travel within the service area to provide training at multiple locations

  • Perform other duties as assigned

What We Are Looking For
  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 1-3 years of training experience

  • 1-3 years of transportation, safety, or related experience

  • Knowledge of federal and state safety and environmental regulations

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with drivers, employees, customers, management, client representatives, union officials, and members of the public

  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and manage time effectively

  • Fluent English communication skills

  • Consistent attendance and punctuality

  • A reliable personal vehicle and the ability to travel throughout the service area as needed

  • Ability to operate a company or personal vehicle when delivering training at multiple locations

Physical Requirements

The Trainer must be able to:

  • Move throughout the office, bus parking areas, and surrounding company facilities

  • Operate standard office equipment

  • Access filing systems and storage cabinets

  • Communicate effectively in person and by telephone

  • Drive to multiple locations within the service area

This position is subject to DOT drug testing and physical requirements. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
