About the RoleThe Service Employee maintains and fuels all school buses, activity buses, and commercial buses in conjunction with First Student's Maintenance Department. This role dispenses fuel, checks oil, maintains accurate stick and meter readings, stocks required supplies and equipment, and coordinates the flow of buses to ensure safe operation.
This position also performs light maintenance as needed to buses, buildings, and grounds.
Major Responsibilities- Open the gates to the lot and check bus parking areas to ensure buses can be dispatched in a timely manner.
- Reposition any buses that may impede traffic flow in the yard.
- Maintain accurate records and complete Bulk Fuel Receiving Report, Fuel Variance Report, Closing Month-End Report, and Meter Calibration Report.
- Notify the Location Manager or designee when fuel delivery is required and ensure accurate stick readings are taken before and after delivery.
- Check and fill oil, antifreeze, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid, and belts on buses being fueled.
- Perform light interior and exterior maintenance on buses as required.
- Perform light maintenance to buildings and grounds as needed.
- Stock required supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate the flow of buses to support safe and timely operation.
- Perform any other management requests or directives as requested.

Service Employee Requirements- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Knowledge of bus maintenance
- Ability to learn maintenance skills
- Ability to work safely and follow established procedures
- Ability to work outdoors in varying seasonal weather conditions
- Subject to DOT drug testing and physical. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
