Overview

Under the direction of the Senior Director, Giving & Events, the Director of the JFund designs and executes JCC Greater Boston’s Annual Campaign strategy, manages a personal donor portfolio, and builds the systems, relationships, and culture that sustain and grow the $3M Annual Campaign. This position offers an entrepreneurial candidate the chance to build a program and grow resources for an organization with a strong track record.

We are seeking an experienced fundraiser who has architected an Annual Campaign, closed major gifts, made data-driven decisions, and thinks creatively. JCC Greater Boston is in the silent phase of its most ambitious comprehensive campaign and seeks a bold fundraiser to drive revenue through an Annual Campaign strategy that engages donors at all levels. The JFund serves as a tool to grow a donor pipeline, particularly for major gift capacity, and is our primary engagement mechanism for participation and stewardship of gifts at every level.

The role requires proven experience closing annual and leadership gifts, leveraging data to drive strategic decisions, and innovative thinking to support fundraising growth across the organization. This leadership strengthens unrestricted fundraising through the campaign and helps grow restricted support for program innovation and other priorities.

Primary responsibilities

Lead and Drive the Annual Campaign

  • Design and manage JCC Greater Boston’s $3M JFund from strategy through execution, including segmentation, solicitation timelines, messaging, acknowledgment, and analysis.
  • Consistently achieve the $3M annual campaign goal, with clear accountability metrics for each gift officer at every tier of the gift pyramid, and a strategy for long-term growth.
  • Build multi-channel campaign strategies across direct mail, digital, phone, and in-person solicitation, events, calibrated to different donor segments.
  • Manage a personal portfolio of 175–225 mid-level and major donors, focusing on gifts of $1,000 and above, with a plan to upgrade donors over time.
  • Analyze and track metrics around donor retention, average gift size, new donor acquisition, and pipeline growth; use findings to inform decisions and reporting.
  • Enhance forecasting tools to accurately and confidently forecast the campaign from fiscal year start to end.
  • Partner with Development team members to embed JFund goals, messaging, and cultivation moments into the organization’s major annual fundraising events.
  • Use events as cultivation vehicles, identifying attendees ready for deeper conversations.
  • Project-manage all direct mail efforts; collaborate with the Development Team on direct email campaigns, including list management and segmentation; coordinate with Marketing and IT as needed.
  • Oversee the production and mailing of materials such as holiday cards and other printed materials as appropriate.
  • Oversee the integrity and strategic use of the Development CRM, ensuring moves management, prospect tracking, and gift data accuracy and actionability.
  • Work with the Finance and Development teams to set expectations around gift processing, acknowledgments, reporting, and data hygiene.

Build and Steward Donor Relationships

  • Develop a year-round stewardship program that treats every donor as a relationship, with touchpoints calibrated to giving level and engagement history.
  • Lead lapsed donor recapture efforts and build a pipeline to convert first-time donors to recurring and mid-level donors.
  • Collaborate with the Major Gifts Officer on the Legacy Giving Circle, including prospect identification, recognition, and stewardship communications that honor legacy commitments and inspire new ones.
  • Collaborate with the Institutional Giving Manager on Corporate and Foundation giving strategies; ensure integration with the Annual Campaign and pursue new funding opportunities while sharing our story as needed to secure funding.
  • Ensure every donor at every level feels the impact of their gift through stories, data, and personal connection.

Partner on the Comprehensive Capital Campaign

  • Build and qualify a major gift prospect pipeline to support the imminent comprehensive campaign in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Prepare regular annual campaign reports for the Senior Director of Giving & Events and Chief Development Officer, the Board Development Committee, and senior leadership, including analysis and figures.
  • Collaborate on major gift strategy for frontline fundraisers’ portfolios giving $25,000 and above, including briefings, proposals, and follow-up.
  • Position Annual Campaign relationships and messaging to create blended asks that meet both annual and campaign goals for each family.

Build a Culture of Philanthropy

  • Be an internal champion for a fundraising mindset, helping program staff, board members, and senior leaders understand their role in donor relationships.
  • Create opportunities for program partnerships that advance community-building and fundraising goals.
  • Identify and engage governance and committee volunteers who can deepen their connection to the JCC through giving and leadership.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (communications, marketing, business administration, PR, etc.) or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of fundraising experience, with at least 2 years managing an annual fund or portfolio.
  • Proven track record of closing gifts, creating annual fundraising plans, and forecasting and reporting.
  • Strong data skills: knowledge of building segmented strategies, retention analysis, and CRM utilization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to craft compelling appeals and make asks as part of routine activities.
  • Enthusiasm for and knowledge of the Boston Jewish community with an authentic connection to JCC Greater Boston’s mission.
  • Capital campaign experience preferred; familiarity with planned giving concepts and legacy donor stewardship preferred.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce NPSP, or comparable CRM preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive; MRV review as required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted to meet minimum criteria.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, social media literacy, and proficiency in Outlook/Teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills; ability to build and sustain relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and donors.
  • Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects, and achieve goals with attention to detail and high-quality standards.

Physical Requirements

Requires frequent local travel and the ability to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours to interact with donors and attend events. This position offers a hybrid work option; essential tasks require in-person presence, with some tasks can be performed remotely. Regular desk work, computer use, and standing/sitting are involved.
