We are seeking a Design Engineer for our First Quality Tissue SE, LLC located in Anderson, SC. This position uses 2-D and 3-D CAD systems, designs and oversees fabrication and installation of machine part / sub-assemblies / schematic designs to support Production, Product Development, Facilities, and Engineering improvement projects.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Using limited sketches and red marked drawings work with multiple manufacturing disciplines to prepare CAD documentation used for changes and updates.
  • Prepare architectural building/equipment arrangements in CAD, using construction knowledge while working closely with Production, Process, Warehousing, Facilities and Engineering. Provide modifications to building drawings when required, such as for insurance underwriting, compliance permitting, office changes/additions, and new buildings.
  • Update documentation as required to maintain accurate records. Types of drawings are comprised of numerous engineering disciplines including Civil, Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, & Process.
  • Secure documentation per utilized methods; i.e. electronic data and/or hard copies. The emphasis is for ease of use to the end users. Create index files with hyperlinks that provide easy to use methods for finding and opening the documents. Maintain a backlog list of items that need completed. Establish yourself as an Autodesk Vault expert to better maintain and own the Vault.
  • With other CAD / Design personnel, maintain and improve drawing control and management system to protect company intellectual property.
  • Design and optimization of mechanical components for manufacturing processes as a support for Project Engineering.
  • Liaison between technical department and engineering. Assists with design criteria and evaluates suggested changes to system.
  • Confer with system engineers and other personnel to suggest implementation of operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Research and analyze internal customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of design or applications.
  • Has access to product design and company drawing files and maintains strict document control measures. Is involved with potential proprietary process changes and discusses matters only with those involved.
  • Self-motivated individual able to complete multiple tasks in short timeframes and works well with others under time pressure.
  • Abide by company policy on E-Mail, Intranet, and all electronic media etiquette

The ideal candidate should possess the following:
  • Either a qualified four-year BS degree in 3-D product/machine design, or a two year AS degree in CAD or design disciplines with 3 - 5 years of experience using latest CAD technology for parts detailing and small assembly designs.
  • Direct experience in overseeing outside machine shop fabrications and on-site trade contractors is a plus.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment preferred.
  • Problem solving/analytics
  • Communication skills with the ability to engage and drive understanding throughout all levels of the organization
  • Strong CAD proficiency along with familiarity with MS Office applications is a must.
  • Exceptional analytical problem solving, equipment vendor management skills, and strong computer skills.
  • Use experience to learn new machinery operation quickly and show effective understanding in assisting others in troubleshooting and providing alternate/design improvements. The successful candidate will handle multiple projects and rapid changes with limited supervision in a fast-paced, 24/7, manufacturing environment.
  • Clear communication and interpersonal skills - both formal and informal.
  • Excellent organizational skills as this associate will be responsible for the Vault, containing all divisional drawings and manuals.
  • Experience with 2-D electrical and P&ID drawings preferred.
  • Experience with Autodesk software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks, Vault Professional, etc.) preferred.
