Senior Project Engineer (Energy, Mechanical & Decarbonization)

Ecosystem

New York, NY

Full-time

Posted 11 days ago

Job description

Do you want to engineer the future of energy efficiency?

Join Ecosystem and be part of a team that’s transforming how buildings use energy and power. We’re on a mission to decarbonize the built environment through bold design, heat electrification, and hands-on project delivery! If you’re a creative Mechanical Design Engineer ready to bring cutting-edge solutions in sustainable infrastructure to life, this is where your ideas shape the future!

Who we are

At Ecosystem we believe we should be accountable for results. That’s why we've integrated engineering and construction, seeing our projects through from design concept to implementation and commissioning. And that's how we can efficiently solve complex energy and decarbonization challenges in the built environment. Here are some of the projects we've been working on recently in the US: San Diego Padres Stadium, Con Edison: Utility Thermal Energy Network; Museum of Arts and Design.

Who you are

You are a curious, creative, and proactive engineer with a strong understanding of electromechanical systems. You are passionate about intelligent energy solutions. As part of a multidisciplinary and innovative team of engineers driven by technical challenges, you are eager to contribute to the success of multi-million-dollar projects.

What you will do

At Ecosystem, you won’t be working on standard projects with off-the-shelf solutions. You will be involved in existing buildings that are energy-intensive and complex, designed in a time when energy was inexpensive. Each project is unique and requires critical thinking, creativity, and resourcefulness.

You will take part in the development of energy performance projects, from audit to construction and through to results validation. Here, you won’t be given a step-by-step manual- instead, you’ll be told what the building needs to achieve, and you’ll have the freedom, resources, and tools to determine how to get there.

Specifically, you will:

  • Act as the single point of ownership for assigned projects, leading both project and design management
  • Serve as lead engineer, managing project timelines, workstreams, budgets, and mentor junior team members while ensuring effective collaboration with MEP firms and client stakeholders
  • Review and enhance MEP drawings and designs to optimize system performance and reduce project cost
  • Gather and analyze client energy bills to identify potential energy savings based on current energy rates and the building’s energy use intensity (EUI)
  • Analyze mechanical/ electrical/ control drawings and perform site surveys to understand the operation of the building
  • Develop energy conservation measures based on clients’ needs and financial parameters
  • Develop and perform calculations using a combination of software and simulations of potential energy savings from the proposed design
  • Select equipment based on energy performance
  • Prepare project construction budgets and develop financial models
  • Provide technical assistance to the Construction Manager during the construction phase of the project
  • Monitor project performance to ensure attainment of anticipated energy savings
Your profile
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Physics Engineering
  • 5–10 years of experience in design engineering or mechanical systems design, ideally within heavy Mechanical & HVAC projects
  • Proven track record contributing to large-scale design-build projects, with growing ownership of design scope and accountability
  • Strong ability to translate theoretical expertise and technical knowledge into innovative, practical solutions through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
  • Skilled in drafting technical reports, presenting proposals, and engaging directly with clients, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Possesses a solution-oriented mindset with the flexibility to adapt designs to unique project challenges, and experience reviewing and approving shop drawings
  • Familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Develop technical concepts and associated written documentation required by the Client Acquisition Team and support the Sales Team in identifying clients’ needs
  • Participate in internal and external meetings/presentations and nurture client relationships
  • Your professional development is an integral part of your role. At Ecosystem, you are encouraged to continuously deepen your expertise, experiment, and think outside the box. We value boldness-where others wait for solutions to be proven, we prefer to be among the first to innovate
What Ecosystem offers
  • End-to-end project ownership: take full accountability of projects from design to delivery and completion, with the autonomy to make decisions and see the results of your designs come to life
  • Career growth & open communication: grow in a culture of transparency and support, with direct access to leadership, and tailored development through training, mentorship, and career planning
  • Generous paid time off: minimum of 15 vacation days, 5 personal days, 10 public holidays, plus a week off to recharge during the end of year Holidays
  • Employer contribution to 401(k) and to a complete Group Insurance package with easy access to health and support through Telemedicine and Employee Assistance Program
  • Annual base salary, approximately $100,000 – $140,000, based on location and experience, with annual reviews to stay market-competitive US
  • You decide when visits are valuable - mileage and meals are covered on-site
  • More than a working tool, cell phones are provided for professional and personal use
  • Our Approach to Working Together is built on trust, collaboration, and accountability. While flexibility depends on the role, some teams have set expectations for time on-site or in the office. We come together intentionally during key moments to connect, learn, and succeed as a team
  • People-first culture: we live our values through DEI, CSR, Innovation, and Social Committees, and celebrate our shared success at events like Ecofest
Those who change the world don’t just make recommendations- they make decisions and act on them.  This is what we do at Ecosystem.
