RIGHT-OF-WAY GROUNDMAN

Objectives

A. To provide maximum service to members and the Cooperative by efficiently assisting in the performance of the daily activities relative to the right-of-way maintenance of the Cooperative's electric system within the guidelines and responsibilities of the classification.

B. To represent the Cooperative in a professional manner, meeting the member's needs and enhancing the Cooperative image, taking every opportunity possible for self improvement so as to be qualified to assume greater responsibilities.

II. Reporting Relationships

A. Reports to Crew Chief or others as may be assigned.

B. Directs none.

III. Essential Functions

A. Perform right-of-way clearing duties, which include but are not limited to tree felling, trimming, chipping, piling and other disposal of brush.

B. Assists in dismantling, cleaning, adjusting, repairing and reassembling right-of-way clearing equipment.

C. Assists the crew leader to ensure accurate and timely submission of all forms needed for daily operations, to include but not limited to employee time sheets, service order tickets, DOT vehicle inspections and job briefings.

D. Develops an on-going knowledge and awareness of all Cooperative policies and goals, safety codes and regulations as well as all aspects of the job classification.

E.. Participates in job training, safety and employee information meetings.

F. Prepares and cleans work site.

G. Assumes any additional responsibilities or duties as may be required or assigned.

IV. Relationships

A. Internal

1. ROW Crew Chief or designated supervisor: Functions under their direction during daily operations.

2. Other Personnel: Works with them closely to maintain a good working relationship throughout daily operations; keeping in mind the responsibility for the safety of self and others during any activity.

B. External

1. Membership: Courteously answer member inquiries and, if unable to do so, directs them to the appropriate person, making every effort to increase their understanding and acceptance of the Cooperative's plans, policies and programs.

2. General Public: Continually work to improve public relations and maintain high acceptance of the Cooperative.

V. Wage and Salary

This position is an hourly rated non-exempt position under the Federal Labor Standards Act and overtime compensation must be paid.

II. Reporting Relationships

A. Reports to appropriate Crew Chief or others as may be assigned.

B. Directs none.

III. Essential Functions

A. Perform right-of-way clearing duties under direct supervision only, which include but are not limited to tree felling trimming, climbing, chipping, piling and other disposal of brush.

B. Assists the crew leader to ensure accurate and timely submission of all forms needed for daily operations, to include but not limited to employee time sheets, service order tickets, DOT vehicle inspections and job briefings.

C. Develops an on-going knowledge and awareness of Cooperative policies and goals,

safety codes and regulations as well as all aspects of the job classification.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
RIGHT-OF-WAY TRIMMER/OPERATOR I

Education

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

One year related work experience preferred.

Job Knowledge

Must have mechanical knowledge and be able to operate assigned equipment used to perform right-of-way clearing, i.e. chainsaws, aerial equipment, climbing tools, brush chippers, etc and have basic knowledge of ropes, rigging and climbing techniques.

Abilities and Skills
Must have basic ability to climb and perform work from trees and a bucket truck. Must have the ability to successfully pass skills evaluations to progress within 18 months. Must have the ability to use tact in dealing with members, fellow employees and the general public. Must have the ability to operate a computer and/or electronic tablet. A valid "Class A" Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is required. Employees with a "Class B" CDL prior to employment will be required to obtain a "Class A" CDL within six months of employment. CPR and First Aid training preferred.

Working Conditions
Primarily outside job subject to work on weekends, at night and during severe storm conditions if requested. This position is subject to residency requirements for on-call and response purposes .

Must possess a current valid driver's license and have the ability to obtain a "Class A" Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within 90 days of employment.

Primarily outside job subject to work on weekends, at night and during severe storm conditions if requested by supervisor. This position is subject to residency requirements for on-call and response purposes.
