Role Description The Electrical Lineman is a full-time, on-site role based in Kaplan, LA, responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. Daily tasks include installing and replacing poles, transformers, lines, and related hardware; performing troubleshooting and repairs on energized and de-energized circuits; and assisting with substation maintenance. The role involves operating bucket trucks and other heavy equipment, performing line clearance and right-of-way work, and responding to power outages, emergencies, and severe weather events. The Electrical Lineman will follow safety protocols, complete required documentation, work effectively with crew members, and interact professionally with residents and other city departments.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of electricity and power distribution systems, including overhead and underground lines.
  • Experience with substation operations or maintenance and related electrical equipment.
  • Valid CDL Class A license or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe, with safe driving record.
  • Skill in operating and maintaining heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and related utility vehicles.
  • Ability to work at heights, in varying weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks safely.
  • Understanding of OSHA and industry safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and use of personal protective equipment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; formal lineman training, apprenticeship, or journeyman certification preferred.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills, with willingness to participate in after-hours, on-call, and emergency response duties.
