Hiring bonus: $2000

The Triangle's premier Emergency and Specialty Hospital is looking for passionate, highly motivated, highly skilled Veterinary Assistants to join our ER and ICU teams!
About Us
Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital (TVRH) provides 24-hour emergency service and specialty referrals in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, neurology, radiology and rehabilitation. Our new facilities offer the latest diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities including digital radiography, ultrasonography, CT, MRI, endoscopy, laparoscopy, and in-house laboratory services.

With a committed staff of 19 veterinarians and over 50 support team members, we bring dedicated, high-quality care to our community 24 hours and day, 7 days a week.
About You
As an ER/ICU Veterinary Assistant with TVRH you would function with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility, so there are a few things that are a must:

About the Job
ER and ICU Assistants provide critical care to patients in emergency situations and those with acute or chronic illnesses that require hospitalization. They work closely with Emergency Clinicians, ER/ICU RVTs and Patient Care Assistants. ER and ICU Assistants can expect to:
  • Triage incoming patients presenting on emergency
  • Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs
  • Perform diagnostics and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patients
  • Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring
  • Observe patients and recognize changes in status
  • Place peripheral and central catheters
  • Restrain patients for exams and treatments
  • Participate in nurse rounds
  • Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids
  • Maintain urinary catheters
  • Bandage removal and application
  • Perform suture and drain removal
  • Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs
  • Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ)
  • Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD)
  • Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients
  • Basic wound cleaning and care
  • Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia
  • Monitor patients while under sedation and maintain a monitoring log
  • Monitor patients during recovery from sedation
  • Obtain samples for and perform in house laboratory testing
  • Assist in CPR
Required Education and Experience
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • 2+ years as veterinary assistant in a fast-paced veterinary hospital; specialty or emergency experience preferred
