Job description

Join a newly established first-line credit function where your expertise will directly shape risk appetite and lending strategy for one of the largest card portfolios in the industry. In this high-visibility role, you will collaborate with senior leaders across product, finance, and risk to define the future of small business credit decisioning - balancing growth with sound, responsible lending.

As a Small Business Card Acquisitions Risk Strategy Vice President in the Card Credit Decisioning team, you will define and manage credit risk strategies for small business card originations, overseeing decisions from approval and decline through credit line assignment across approximately 10 million new accounts annually. You will partner across the organization to set risk appetite, shape underwriting policies, and ensure lending decisions that create sustainable value. This role calls for analytical curiosity, comfort with complex data, and the ability to translate insights into clear, actionable strategy.

Job responsibilities
  • Define the credit risk appetite and credit box in partnership with Product, Finance, and the Credit Risk team
  • Assess new credit expansion opportunities and develop execution plans in collaboration with product and risk partners
  • Establish reviews and processes to monitor performance against credit assumptions and ensure disciplined execution
  • Shape the variables included in new credit models and engage with the modeling team on roadmap development and priorities
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing talent within the credit decisioning function
  • Design and implement performance metrics; lead performance monitoring reviews with senior leadership
  • Drive policy and strategy development by shaping credit policies and risk management frameworks
  • Maintain a strong regulatory and controls environment across all credit risk activities
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across risk, underwriting, legal, and finance to balance growth objectives with sound risk management
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 7 years of experience in direct-to-consumer lending, originations, or retail credit at a large-scale financial services organization
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and manage credit risk, with strong judgment in recommending or approving credit policy
  • Exceptional quantitative and analytical skills, with experience working with complex, large-scale data
  • Proven strategic thinking and execution capabilities, with a track record of identifying and driving business improvements
  • Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders within large organizations
  • Experience developing executive-level presentation materials and leading senior leadership briefings
  • High level of personal initiative with a demonstrated track record of setting and achieving challenging goals
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Advanced degree (MBA or Master's) in Finance, Statistics, Economics, or a related quantitative field
  • Experience in small business or commercial credit risk strategy
  • Familiarity with credit scoring models, underwriting systems, or automated decisioning platforms
  • Prior experience in a first-line risk or credit strategy function at a major financial institution
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Python, SQL, or SAS
