TITLE: Aerobics Instructor - Intramurals

DEPARTMENT: Athletics

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director 

CLASSIFICATION: Staff

EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD

STANDARD WORK HOURS: 24

LOCATION: On-Site-Main Campus

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-Time

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt


JOB SUMMARY: 
 

The Aerobics Instructor for Intramurals will be responsible for leading and instructing aerobics classes for students, faculty, and staff in a fun, engaging, and safe environment. The instructor will create and deliver exercise routines that accommodate various fitness levels while promoting overall health and wellness. The Aerobics Instructor will also provide guidance, motivation, and individualized support to participants to help them reach their fitness goals.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Deliver safe, effective, and engaging aerobics classes that are appropriate for varying fitness levels. Provide clear instructions on form, technique, and safety during exercises.
  • Ensure that participants are performing exercises correctly to minimize the risk of injury. Continuously monitor the class for safety, proper form, and individual needs.
  • Develop and implement creative and dynamic aerobics routines that align with fitness trends, ensuring variety and progress in classes.
  • Create a positive and encouraging atmosphere that motivates participants to push themselves and stay committed to their fitness goals.
  • Provide individualized feedback and track participant progress to help them achieve personal fitness goals.
  • Set up, inspect, and maintain fitness equipment before, during, and after classes, ensuring everything is in good working condition.
  • Effectively communicate with participants and the Intramural Sports Coordinator regarding scheduling, attendance, and any class changes or concerns.
  • Address any participant concerns or questions in a professional and timely manner, ensuring high levels of satisfaction.
     
     

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • A strong understanding of aerobics and fitness techniques, as well as proper form and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a group, providing clear instructions and demonstrations of exercises.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to give clear instructions, provide feedback, and engage with participants in a supportive manner.
  • Ability to inspire and encourage participants to achieve their fitness goals while creating an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Ability to modify exercises and routines to meet the varying fitness levels of participants and adapt to any unforeseen challenges during class.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address any issues that may arise during classes, such as participant concerns or equipment malfunctions.
  • Effective organizational skills to manage class schedules, attendance, and preparation time for each session.
  • Ability to build relationships with participants, creating a positive and supportive environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate exercises and maintain physical stamina throughout each class session.

Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR procedures, with certification or willingness to obtain it upon hire.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: 

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibility. 


 

OTHER DUTIES: 

  • Other related duties as assigned.


 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification in aerobics instruction, group fitness, or related field (e.g., ACE, AFAA, or similar).
  • Previous experience teaching aerobics or fitness classes preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage participants in an inclusive, supportive manner.
  • Knowledge of safety standards in fitness instruction.
  • Ability to lead group workouts and adapt to varying fitness levels.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

 

Licensing and Certifications: NA


 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Part-time position with flexible hours, primarily evenings or weekends.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, high-energy environment.
  • Requires standing, demonstrating exercises, and assisting participants for extended periods.
