Aquatics Group Instructor:ย $16.34/HR - $22.88/HR, DOQ/E

Aquatics Private Lesson Instructor:ย $24.18/HR - $31.86/HR, DOQ/E

Essential Duties & Job Responsibilities:

  • Interacts with students in the water during class
  • Interacts with and responds to parent concerns and explains child's progress
  • Prepares lesson plans that effectively teach kids proper swimming methods and water safety rules
  • Completes students progress skill sheets identifying if the students have mastered specific skills necessary to pass from one level to the next
  • May be required to perform emergency first aid and life-saving techniques
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

Minimum Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.


Age Requirement: ย Must be at least 15 years oldย 

Experience: At least six (6) months' experience instructing group lessons is preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Must hold the following American Red Cross certifications: First Aid, CPR/Professional Rescuer, AED and Administering Emergency Oxygen. Optional certifications: Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and Fundamentals of Instruction Training (FIT). Required certifications can be obtained through the Town.ย 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to physically perform various rescue techniques, life-saving procedures and water safety instruction
  • Ability to physically withstand extended periods of time in the pool and pool area with exposure to temperature extremes, varying weather conditions, chemicals, water and other conditions found in the pool area
  • Ability to communicate to children and adults effectively
  • Ability to effectively convey information to students
  • Ability to physically perform and demonstrate various swimming strokes
  • Ability to be keenly aware of participant whereabouts in the facility at all times during instruction
  • Physical ability to hold and handle kids in the water
  • Physical ability to stand/swim in water for a minimum of 40 minutes at a time

Physical Demands:

  • Occasional physical work lifting no more than 10 poundsย 
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
  • Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment
  • Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens


Work Environment:

  • Extended periods of time in the pool and pool area with exposure to temperature extremes, varying weather conditions, chemicals, water and other conditions found in the pool areaย

  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
