Job Summary:
In your pivotal role of Recovery Coach Internship, with guidance from the Lead Peer Recovery Specialist, you will provide peer recovery support services to patients with substance use disorder (SUD) and will assist patients in achieving and sustaining recovery as defined by each individual patient. Your internship role will use a developmental learning approach to provide knowledge and skills for providing recovery support services. Initially, you will have limited responsibilities and close supervision, mentoring and intensive instruction. As you progress, you will gain autonomy while still receiving supervision. You will develop skills in facilitating patient access to recovery-oriented substance use disorder treatment, resources, and community recovery groups. You will maintain ongoing patient support regardless of relapse and will serve as a motivator, ally, role model, sounding board, and advocate for patients with substance use disorders. You also will gain experience providing one -on-one peer support, leading support groups and providing recovery education.
POSITION DETAILS:

• Completion of Tennessee CPRS Training Part One (STRONGLY PREFERRED)
• Experience working with Microsoft Office; experience working with Epic is a plus
• Reliable transportation

SHIFT/SCHEDULE:

• M-F | 16 hours per week | Business Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

• Firefly at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is an outpatient treatment program for pregnant and postpartum women with substance use disorder.
• Firefly provides wrap-around clinical and behavioral health care as well as social support services, seeking to eliminate barriers to care so that women can enter and sustain long-term recovery.
• Firefly providers and staff utilize a trauma-informed approach to care that combats stigma and strives to support each patient with their individual recovery goals. The multidisciplinary clinic is based in the Center for Women's Health at Vanderbilt Health One Hundred Oaks, and has satellite locations throughout Middle Tennessee.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serves as a liaison between the recovery community, the addiction treatment system, the medical treatment system, and the patient's community, family, and social context to facilitate connections across systems of care.
• Meets with patients in clinical and community settings to understand their needs and personal goals, support the exploration of potential positive and negative consequences associated with personal goals, and work collaboratively with the patient to remove obstacles that might interfere with goal attainment.
• Educates patients about addiction safe use practices, multiple pathways of recovery, and utilizes motivational enhancement techniques
• Conducts active outreach efforts to encourage attendance and participation in recovery-oriented, self-help, and pro-social groups.
• Works collaboratively with treatment team in support of evidence-based services to patients.
• Assists with access to treatment for patients, understanding and using systems and procedures to rapidly support identified needs of the patient and assists with data collection for quality assurance and program evaluation.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:

• Clinical Counseling (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate clinical counseling in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
• Patient Assessment (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate patient assessments in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
• Peer Leadership (Novice): The ability to show leadership and influence people of equal rank in an effort to accomplish team goals.
