Summary:
Responsible for respondingappropriate equipmentor personnel to emergency and non-emergency calls for fire and emergency medical services as well as on call department services.Identifiesand dispatchesappropriate units;complies withUSAP policies and procedures to ensure the safety of all public safety responders and the public.
Position Responsibilities:
Responsible formaintaininga safe and clean workplace and ensuring that safetyis thehighest priority in the workplace. Adheres to ASC Safety guidelines andparticipatesin weekly safety meetings.
Monitors, answers, interprets, prioritizes, and dispatches emergency responders for calls received via the 911 phone system, administrative phone system, the various radiosystemsor other means.
Monitors the automatic fire alarm system and dispatches emergency responders and/or technicians asappropriateand creates corresponding service requests for technicians.
Monitors, answers, and interprets various equipmentindicatingfacilities emergencies. Prioritizes information, delegates to theappropriate trade, and creates service requests for emergency facility work orders.
Responsible for communicating with and notifying emergency service personnel whenappropriate. (Fire Fighters, Search and Rescue (SAR), fire Technicians, Medical staff, Spill Response personnel, etc.)
Monitors andoperatesHF/VHF/Satellite telephone equipment, various radio equipment andassistscommunications technicians with troubleshooting equipment when necessary.
Assistswith operationalaircraftcommunications, including uncontrolled airfield announcements and distributingaircraftmovement reports to field camps, other stations, firepersonneland various other departments.
Maintains knowledge of, and tracks, vehicle movements, fieldpartiesand Recreation groupsin accordance withthe USAP safe travel policy, and field camp check inpolicies.InitiatesEOC procedures asrequired.
Performs communication related data entryutilizingFirehouse Software, Word, Excel, Power Point,Outlookand other applications. Responsible foraccurateandtimelyreporting for all logs and reporting systems
Thoroughly communicates current and pertinent information during every shift exchange.
Coordinates international communications and relays information toappropriateagencies.
Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner andin accordance withPII/SI/PHI policies and procedures.
Interacts with the National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, both over the phone and in person, in a professional and tactful manner.
Provides set-up and communications staffing personnel for the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during emergency events and drills.
Coordinates radio communications asrequiredduring Fire Department,SARor mass casualty events/drills, and conveys instructions via UHF/VHF/HF/Satellite as directed by the EOC Director.
Notifies communications technicians when equipment malfunctions or failures occur.
Provides communication support to personnel in the field.
Monitorsvehicletravel away from station during winter and win-fly. Initiates SAR procedures asrequired.
Works a varied schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage of the communications center.This can include working day shift, night shift and station holidays and events.
Assists Dispatch Communications Supervisor with special projects asrequired.
Performs other duties as assignedby the Lead Dispatcher.
RequiredEducation, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:
High School diploma orGED
Incident Command System (ICS) 100 and 200 certifications arerequiredfor offer consideration (training offered through FEMA).
2 years of emergency services (Fire, EMS, and/or Law Enforcement) dispatch experience.
Must hold a valid emergency dispatcher certification from APCO, NENA, or a state agency, and/or a DoD Telecommunicator I/II certification.
ExpectedSkills and Competencies:
Computer skillsrequired, including Word, Excel,PowerPointand e-mail applications. Good judgment and exceptional communication skills.
Must have an ability to independently prioritize requests by level of urgency.
Must have the ability to work unsupervised andpossibly aloneduring various levels of urgency and call volume.
Complies withapplicable safety, environment, health, and waste management policies and procedure.
Physical and/or Other Requirements:
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
Mustparticipatein community programs, such as "house-mouse" (chores), "daisy-picking" (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safetyobjectives.
Valid Driver's License issued in the United States
No clearance requirement but the contract and/or the site requires US Citizenship to be approved for access. (includes NACI / T1, MRPT, CAC): Must be able to obtain andmaintainfacility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship isrequiredfor facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
