Fire Protection Designer

Job Summary:
The Fire Protection designer will lead Revit production, drafting coordination, and construction documents for fire protection systems. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on projects in a variety of market sectors including DOW, Federal and Private Space Industry projects. This position is offered in a hybrid work environment, with a combination of in-office collaboration and remote work flexibility.
In this role, you will:
  • Lead Revit production and preparation of fire protection construction documents for multiple projects.
  • Produce complex floor plans, riser diagrams, schedules, details, and equipment layouts for new and renovation projects.
  • Work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Coordinate Revit models with mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural disciplines.
  • Discuss design during architect/client design review meetings and coordinate design development.
  • Lead clash detection and resolution coordination issues during design development.
  • Manage drawing deliverables, deadlines, and production priorities for assigned projects.
  • Prepare design calculations and selection of equipment for building fire protection systems.
  • Write and edit fire protection specifications, engineering reports, and other technical design documentation.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards and apply requirements to project designs.
  • Support construction administration through submittal reviews, RFIs, punch walks, field revisions, and as-built updates.

Operational Responsibilities
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to internal standards, training, and quality control procedures.
  • Support proposals, bid site visits, and business development efforts as needed.

You will be a great fit if:
  • You have a minimum of 5+ years of fire protection design experience
  • NICET Certification - Preferred
  • Must have working knowledge of the ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA, and NEC; with a preference for knowledge of the IBC, IMC, IECC, and IPC requirements.

Skills/abilities:
  • Proficient in performing hydraulic calculations and using industry standard software such as AutoSPRINK or similar.
  • Proficient in Bluebeam Revu, Revit, AutoCAD, and MS Office
  • Familiarity with codes, standards, and design guidelines
  • Excellent work ethic and attitude
  • Good communication and time management skills
  • Interpersonal communication skills, combined with organizational skills, the ability to plan, balance, and prioritize work

Compensation & Benefits:
The expected base salary range for this role is $80,000 - $100,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
