Job description

We are seeking a Fire Alarm CAD Designer to join our growing fire alarm division. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented designer to contribute to meaningful projects that protect lives and property across the Atlanta metro area. As part of a family-owned company with four decades of excellence, you’ll collaborate daily with seasoned professionals like sales executives, project managers, and division managers. The Fire Alarm CAD Designer will play a vital role in transforming project specifications into accurate, code-compliant fire alarm system drawings, directly supporting our mission of delivering best-in-class fire protection solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare detailed AutoCAD drawings for fire alarm and detection systems, including layouts, riser diagrams, device placement, wiring, and control equipment.
  • Interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings to incorporate fire alarm system requirements.
  • Coordinate designs with other disciplines (sprinkler, suppression, electrical, mechanical).
  • Ensure designs comply with NFPA 72 and local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) requirements.
  • Generate submittals and as-built drawings in accordance with project specifications.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, sales, subs, and field technicians to deliver effective solutions.
  • Assist with permitting packages and respond to comments from AHJs or general contractors.
  • Maintain organized digital drawing files and adhere to company drafting standards.

Qualifications

  • Required
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD (4+ years minimum) with demonstrated experience in fire alarm or related low-voltage system design.
    • Familiarity with NFPA 72 and basic electrical codes.
    • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, architectural and engineering plans.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
    • Previous work in a fire protection company environment.
  • Preferred
    • NICET Level II or higher in Fire Alarm Systems.
    • Experience with fire alarm / engineered system manufacturer software (e.g., Notifier, Fike, EST, Honeywell, etc.).
    • Knowledge of fire alarm integration with sprinkler and suppression systems.
