Job description

Mechanical Engineer โ€“ EPC / Power & Industrial Projects
Birmingham, AL
Pay: DOE
Onsite | Contract-to-Direct

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a large EPC firm in Birmingham, AL supporting industrial and power generation projects. This role will focus on mechanical system design for projects including power generation, substations, transmission infrastructure, renewables, battery energy storage (BESS), and industrial facilities.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and/or industrial piping system design within an EPC or industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and mechanical piping systems for industrial and power projects
  • Develop conceptual designs, layouts, material take-offs, and construction packages
  • Perform HVAC calculations, equipment sizing, and piping/ductwork design
  • Conduct piping stress analysis and select valves, supports, and specialty equipment
  • Prepare engineering studies, estimates, and procurement documentation
  • Coordinate designs with multidisciplinary teams, vendors, contractors, and clients
  • Review vendor/shop drawings and support drafting teams with AutoCAD, Plant 3D, and Revit
  • Perform field verification, site inspections, and construction/commissioning support
  • Assist with project proposals, schedules, and client presentations
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • 6โ€“10+ years of industrial or EPC mechanical engineering experience
  • Experience with HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and/or industrial piping systems
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1, IMC, IECC, NFPA, and applicable industry standards
  • Experience with piping stress analysis, equipment selection, and constructible design practices
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Plant 3D required
  • Revit and Navisworks experience preferred
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • PE License highly preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
