Job description

 

Weston & Sampson is seeking a mid-career Mechanical Engineer with 5-15 years of experience to join our Mechanical HVAC and Plumbing team in any Weston & Sampson New England office. This is an opportunity for a motivated professional to take on more responsibility in projects and be a significant contributor to shaping the company's future. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a multi-discipline professional engineering firm involved in the production of contract drawings for the construction industry.

A thorough understanding of Massachusetts State (and other New England States) Building Code is required. Candidate shall demonstrate a working knowledge of Drain, Waste & Vent design and calculating Fire Protection Systems including the application of electric and engine driven fire pumps, cisterns, wet and dry type sprinklers, kitchen and other chemical fire suppression systems. A successful candidate must be capable of working independently with minimal oversight, be able to initiate detailed coordination with other building systems disciplines, and be capable of taking mechanical concepts to implementation.

 

What you'll do:

  • Engineering and design documentation for both new and renovation projects for a variety of facility types within the private, public, federal, and municipal sectors.
  • Design will include field investigation of existing facilities, shop drawing review, generation of reports and production of contract drawings.
  • Coordinating with multi-disciplinary personnel located in both local and regional offices, sub-consultants, utility companies, equipment vendors and clients.
  • A successful candidate should be capable of working both independently and as part of a multidiscipline team.

What you will bring:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • PE license or ability to obtain a PE in any state in the United States
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant plumbing fire protection, mechanical design and/or energy related experience
  • Have strong communication skills (oral and written) and be able to remain organized with multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Active member of relevant industry associations.
  • Possessing high ethical standards, committed to producing high quality deliverables, and a commitment to teamwork, respect, and integrity.
  • Capable of managing multiple complex projects simultaneously and directing and overseeing junior staff work for same projects
  • Capable of working safely at job sites in and around large mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Revit 3D experience (or similar) and AutoCAD
  • Able to travel locally in New England and occasionally the east coast of the USA for project meetings and site investigation
  • Valid driver's license

Salary Range: $125,000 - $150,000 depending on experience
