Job description

Prairie Grass Fire and Safety is looking for an experienced Fire Safety Technician to join our growing team. If you're mechanically inclined, enjoy hands-on work and working independently, and take pride in quality workmanship and customer service, we'd like to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, service, maintain, and repair portable fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, and other fire and life safety equipment in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot fire protection equipment and systems at customer locations.
  • Identify deficiencies and provide customers with clear recommendations for corrective solutions.
  • Complete inspection reports, deficiency documentation, and other required forms accurately and on time.
  • Maintain proper care, handling, and organization of inspection and testing tools, equipment, and materials.

·         Provide professional customer service and maintain a high standard of workmanship.

  • Stay current with any safety training and industry certification programs and follow all company health and safety policies.
  • Participate in required safety training and industry certification programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience inspecting and maintaining portable fire extinguishers; with previous fire protection industry experience is a strong asset.
  • Experience as a Fire Extinguisher Technician is an asset.
  • Fire Alarm Technician/CFAA certification is an asset. Candidates willing to obtain certification and complete accredited training may also be considered.
  • Class M and/or Class M-T certification is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA standards, the Manitoba Fire Code, and other applicable fire protection codes and standards.
  • Strong electrical knowledge and experience working with hand tools; must have the hand tools required for the position.
  • Strong organizational, and time-management skills with the ability to manage service calls and documentation efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with a professional approach when working at customer locations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software and digital reporting systems.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and willing to continue learning and developing within the fire and life safety industry.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's licence with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry materials and equipment up to 70 lbs. and stay updated on industry regulations safety standards and new technologies related to fire protection.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends and complete overnight travel when required.
