Job description

Performs activities related to answering emergency calls and providing accurate information to correct agency regarding those calls. Dispatch police officers as necessary to eliminate criminal activity, disturbances, accidents, etc.

Requires a High School diploma or GED and six months experience in dispatching, as a police officer, or in public safety. Required to have or obtain basic certification for operation of Tennessee Information Enforcement System (TIES).

  • Alerts Memphis Fire Department, and/or Memphis Police Department as appropriate. 
  • Inputs incident and dispatch information into computer, NCIC or SCATS terminals. 
  • Notifies University officials of incidents in accordance with University policies.
  • Receives information regarding need for assistance or alarm situations and disseminates it to responding Officers; explains the nature of the incident to Officers. 
  • Verifies names of persons authorized to use University facilities. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
