Job description

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a new product engineering team being built in San Diego, developing software for providers in the sleep health diagnostics domain.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who delivers high-quality software, raises the technical bar of those around them, and is comfortable operating in an environment where team structure and norms are still being established. The team operates under an AI-native product/software development methodology, and as one of its earliest members, you will help define what disciplined, high-quality AI-assisted delivery looks like in practice. You will work closely with Product, Design, and senior engineers to translate well-defined, provider-facing problems into durable, production-grade solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and UX standards.

You are not expected to have all the answers. You are expected to bring strong fundamentals, sound judgment, and a genuine drive to grow.

What You'll Do

Build and Ship

  • Design and implement scalable, well-tested backend services and user-facing features for provider-facing sleep health diagnostics workflows.
  • Contribute to system design discussions, proposing scoped solutions with clearly articulated trade-offs.
  • Write code that teammates can read, extend, and maintain independently.
  • Take ownership of what you build in production, including monitoring, alerting, on-call support, and iterative improvement.

Work Across the Value Stream

  • Collaborate with Product and Design from story refinement through production release.
  • Participate actively in technical discussions, surfacing hidden complexity in requirements when identified.
  • Coordinate with platform and DevX teams to build correctly on shared enterprise foundations.

Raise the Bar

  • Review teammates' code thoroughly and constructively.
  • Pair with less experienced engineers on challenging problems.
  • Identify technical debt and quality risks, proposing practical solutions rather than observations alone.

Practice AI-Native Development

  • Use AI coding tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code) as genuine accelerators within the team's AI-native development methodology.
  • Critically review AI-generated output for correctness, edge cases, security, and maintainability.
  • Contribute to shaping and refining team norms for AI-assisted development as the practice matures.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong backend engineering skills - Java/Spring Boot preferred; equivalent stacks considered.
  • Experience with distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and cloud-native deployments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience building user-facing features aligned with a structured design system.
  • Working experience with AI-assisted development tools and genuine interest in AI-native development methodology; healthcare or health-tech exposure is a plus.
  • Comfort operating within an enterprise environment, including CI/CD pipelines, security controls, and compliance awareness.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A demonstrated eagerness to learn and share knowledge with others.

What We Value

  • Engineers who ask good questions before writing the first line of code.
  • Team members who make the people around them better.
  • Builders who take pride in clean, tested, well-documented work.
  • Curious technologists who stay current without chasing every new trend.
  • AI-native practitioners who use new tools responsibly and help others do the same.
