What is finish carpentry?

Finish carpentry involves the final touches and detailed woodwork that complete a building's interior or exterior appearance. This includes tasks such as installing trim, molding, baseboards, door and window casings, cabinetry, and other decorative elements. Finish carpenters focus on precision and aesthetics, ensuring that joints are tight, surfaces are smooth, and all work is visually appealing. Their craftsmanship is often the most visible part of a construction project, contributing significantly to the look and feel of a space.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a finish carpenter?

To thrive as a Finish Carpenter, you need expertise in woodworking, measuring, blueprint reading, and the use of hand and power tools, often gained through vocational training or apprenticeships. Familiarity with carpentry tools like miter saws, nail guns, and wood finishing products, as well as OSHA safety certifications, is typically expected. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication with clients and team members are critical soft skills. These competencies ensure high-quality craftsmanship, safe work practices, and customer satisfaction in finish carpentry projects.

What are some common challenges faced in a finish carpentry role, and how can they be addressed?

Finish carpentry often presents challenges such as working with uneven surfaces, meeting tight deadlines, and ensuring precise measurements for a flawless appearance. Carpenters can address these by using specialized tools like laser levels and coping saws, maintaining clear communication with project managers, and carefully reviewing blueprints before starting a task. Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills are essential, as even small mistakes can impact the overall quality and aesthetics of the finished work.

Job description

Finish Carpenter
About BIBA
BIBA Social Club is West Palm Beach’s newest private members’ club and boutique hotel—an inviting space where thoughtful design, great hospitality, culture, and community come together.
Inspired by the effortless elegance of the French Riviera and the relaxed glamour of the Palm Beaches, BIBA is being created with a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and detail. From our historic setting to our restaurants, lounges, guest suites, and gathering spaces, every element is designed to feel considered, beautiful, and welcoming.
We’re building something special from the ground up—and we’re looking for people who want to be part of it.
The Role
As a Finish Carpenter, you’ll help bring the physical world of BIBA to life.
This is a hands-on role for someone who notices the details others might miss and takes genuine pride in beautiful, precise work. You’ll work throughout the property on finish carpentry, repairs, installations, and special projects, helping ensure every space looks and feels exactly as it should.
If you enjoy working with your hands, have an eye for craftsmanship, and like seeing a project go from an idea to something guests can experience, we’d love to meet you.
What You’ll Do
  • Complete finish carpentry, trim, molding, millwork, doors, cabinetry, and detail work throughout the property.
  • Install, repair, and maintain woodwork, fixtures, hardware, and architectural finishes.
  • Assist with renovations, improvements, installations, and special projects.
  • Read plans, drawings, measurements, and specifications as needed.
  • Make repairs and adjustments while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship.
  • Work closely with the Facilities and Operations teams to keep the property beautiful, safe, and guest-ready.
  • Identify issues before they become problems and recommend thoughtful solutions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Work respectfully around guests and team members while maintaining BIBA’s elevated environment.
  • Support other maintenance and facilities projects when needed.
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous experience in finish carpentry, residential or commercial construction, millwork, cabinetry, or a related trade.
  • Strong knowledge of carpentry tools, materials, and techniques.
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  • Ability to read measurements, plans, and basic construction drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a resourceful, can-do attitude.
  • Ability to work independently while being a supportive team player.
  • Professional, dependable, and respectful.
  • Comfortable working in an active hospitality environment where quality and presentation matter.
  • Ability to lift, carry, bend, kneel, climb, and work on your feet for extended periods.
The BIBA Way
We’re looking for someone who believes that the little things matter.
A perfectly finished piece of trim. A door that closes just right. A beautiful repair that looks like it was always meant to be there.
At BIBA, craftsmanship is part of hospitality. The work you do may happen behind the scenes, but our members and guests will feel the difference.
This is a founding team opportunity, which means you’ll have the chance to help shape not only the property, but the culture and standards of BIBA from the very beginning.
Come build something beautiful with us.
BIBA is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to building a diverse, welcoming, and talented team.
