Description
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is a technical position that primarily performs routine and cyclical tasks to maintain and care for school athletic fields. This position is designated as "Essential Personnel", which requires that employees report to their job site during emergency situations, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergency situations. Some nights and weekends required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Provides athletic field maintenance, such as cutting grass, weed eating, seeding, edging, fertilizing, and litter control.
Prepares facilities, grounds, and equipment for events, such as dragging, marking, and lining athletic fields.
Sets up, takes down, and clears up for special events and other activities.
Performs preventative maintenance and repairs of grounds equipment.
Performs safety checks of school grounds and facilities.
Removes graffiti (e.g., water blasts walls, graffiti removal, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing vandalism and maintaining attractive facilities;
Uses proper safety equipment and personal protective equipment as needed for each task;
Coordinates with administration, staff, and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently;
Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items;
Transports various items (e.g., tools, equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site;
Orders supplies and materials for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items as needed;
Assists with maintaining, storing, and inventorying athletic equipment;
Monitors irrigation systems to ensure proper operation;
Assists with skilled workmen of related trades intermittently in general maintenance work;
On call and willing to return to duty if an urgent need arises for any building needs;
Performs related work as assigned by direct and indirect supervisor.

Qualifications: KSA's, Education
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of general landscaping and standard safety practices required. Knowledge of turf management and small engine repair, preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required with experience working with small tools; general groundskeeping is required. Experience with turf management and related equipment repair is preferred - OR- Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. Valid driver's license and Clean driving record required; motor vehicle record check will be conducted as part of the hiring process.

Work Schedule: 12 Months, 261 Days, 8 Hours
Paygrade: 10

Physical Conditions:
Must operate equipment safely to avoid injury. Tasks are performed normally outside, sometimes in adverse weather. Operation of commercial mowing and landscaping equipment, gas-powered hand tools, and heavy-duty equipment as qualified. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to: work in all weather conditions and climb/use a ladder. Position requires significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Performance of more strenuous physical tasks, such as: walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending or stooping; working in confined spaces; lifting or carrying items weighing 20-50 pounds with occasional lifting of items weighing over 100 pounds. Complex operation of gasoline, diesel or electric-powered machinery or shop equipment, requiring the manipulation of multiple controls or fine adjustments. Exposure to potentially disabling/nondisabling injuries or illnesses. Communication is usually cooperative, but requires tact and discretion. Travel throughout the division is required. Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
