Sales Development Representative

Outlast

Salt Lake City, UT • On-site

Full-time

Posted 27 days ago

Job description

Outlast is modernizing the $1 trillion global recyclables market, one of the largest and least digitized industries in the world.
We're building the platform that connects suppliers, buyers, and logistics into one seamless ecosystem growing 3-4x while doing it and we've already locked down some of the largest commercial contracts in the industry.
As one of our first GTM hires, you won't inherit a playbook, you'll write it. You'll define what success looks like in this role and lay the foundation for our sales org as we scale. If you want to learn GTM from the ground up, this is the place. But it also takes someone who embodies one of our core values, Scrap Daily.
The Role
We're looking for an SDR to fill Outlast's sales pipeline. This is a phone-first lead-generation role where you'll work signal-driven lists of industrials (stamping plants, foundries and die casters, machine shops), find the ones with an urgent reason to talk right now, qualify the opportunity, and hand it to our VP of Sales to close.
You'll report to our VP of Sales and run a modern outbound stack: lists built and enriched with AI, multi-touch sequences in the CRM, an integrated dialer that transcribes and summarizes every call. This motion is being built from the ground up. You'll run the first experiments and every call you log makes the next list smarter.
You don't need to come from industrials. We can teach you the market. What we can't teach is hustle, resilience, and a genuine love of the phone.
Key Respnsibilities
  • Prospect manufacturers. High-volume outbound 80+ dials a day into stamping plants, foundries, die casters, and machine shops from nationally built, signal-ranked lists. This is the core of the job.
  • Chase urgency signals. New facility permits, plants changing hands, environmental violations, layoff notices, new plant-manager hires you call when there's a reason to call, and you open with it.
  • Hand off cleanly. Qualified opportunities go to our VP of Sales with notes complete enough that nothing gets re-discovered. Your quota is opportunities Sales accepts not conversations, not booked meetings that are no-show.
  • Close the loop. Log every call same-day with tagged outcomes and disqualification reasons.
  • Use technology to work smarter. We're a tech company. AI-enriched lists, live commodity pricing in your outreach, AI call summaries we expect you to run the stack, not fight it.

Qualifications
  • You love outbound. High-volume calling energizes you rather than drains you. If you've done it before and want more of it, even better.
  • You can talk to a plant manager. Plain-spoken, warm, and credible with shop owners and operators who've heard every pitch. No corporate script voice.
  • You're resilient. Call 61 sounds like call 1. Rejection rolls off, and you bring positive energy to every conversation.
  • You're a self-starter. You don't wait for instructions. You report results, not requests for permission.
  • You learn fast. Alloys, turnings, stamping offal, melt-shop feedstock most of it will be new to you. That's fine. What matters is how quickly you get up to speed through real calls.
  • You're comfortable with ambiguity. We're a startup. Processes are being built, not inherited. If you need fully defined SOPs before you can act, this isn't the right fit.
  • You have experience. 1-2 years of SDR, BDR, or inside sales experience in B2B sales, lead generation, or another quota-carrying, customer-facing role.

Nice to Haves
  • Background in manufacturing, industrial services, metals, or recycling
  • Experience selling to owner-operators or small businesses (machine shops, auto, construction, logistics)
  • Experience in a startup or early-stage company
  • Comfort with modern sales tooling CRM sequences (Salesforce or HubSpot), LinkedIn Sales Navigator, dialers, and AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT
