Job description

DEQ is recruiting for an IT System Administrator within the Information Technology Bureau (ITB). This is a full-time position based in Helena, Montana; regular in-office attendance is required, with telework limited to one day per week.

Our IT System Administrators (NetOps team) are responsible for providing the overall technical administration, management, and operational direction for agency IT systems and end-user computing environments. Responsibilities include help desk support as well as administration of desktops and laptops, mobile devices, network storage and backup systems.

Essential Functions: These duties represent the primary responsibilities of the position but are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all assigned tasks.
IT Systems Administration and Support: 
    Assist users with issues related to laptops, mobile devices, servers and other technology. 
    Document technical issues, user requests, and resolutions.
    Install, image, update, maintain, and decommission desktop, server, and mobile hardware and software.
    Install and support copier, printer, and scanner hardware and associated drivers.
    Coordinate with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues. 
    Configure hardware and software in alignment with State, DEQ, and vendor requirements.
    Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Microsoft Group Policy and related IT systems. 
    Provision, manage, and troubleshoot mobile devices.
    Provide technical support to non-technical users. 
    Perform other duties as assigned. 
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
    Ability to deliver excellent customer service and maintain positive working relationships. 
    Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changing tools and methodologies.
    Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. 
    Knowledge of hardware such as laptops, desktops, servers, printers, mobile devices, and other agency-supported technologies. 
    Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Windows operating systems, Group Policy, and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), along with other agency-supported software. 
    Familiarity with tools and platforms such as Tanium, Microsoft Server, PowerShell, and security software is preferred. 
The IT System Administrator position includes a career ladder that supports professional development and pay progression.

Minimum requirements: 
        Associate degree or equivalent job-related college coursework or vocational training. 
        Two years of experience providing PC support in a Windows environment.
