Crouse's Patient Access Department promotes patient advocacy and meeting the needs of our patients, visitors, volunteers, and staff in an efficient, timely and courteous manner. In addition, Patient Access strives for excellence in quality and providing an accurate method of patient registration for various points of service throughout Crouse Hospital.
The Patient Access team is hiring a Financial Counseling Support.
Schedule: Full Time, Days/Evenings,10:30am-7:00pm, 11:30am-8:00pm, 12:00pm-8:30pm, with rotating weekends, holidays and other shifts assigned.
Pay Range: $20.15 - 34.32 / hour
Financial Counseling Support Position Responsibilities:
  • Counsels patients and families regarding all financial options including New York State insurance programs, hospital charity care and other payment options.
  • Properly documents and accurately enters patient information into the NYS Marketplace and hospitals financial system.
  • Diligently obtains and verifies Medicaid and refers commercial insurance to appropriate department.
  • Efficiently maintains comprehensive tracking report of hospital charity care applications and Medicaid applications to monitor status and conversation rate.
  • Proficiently investigates problem accounts, identifies and updates any missing information in an organized fashion.
  • Accurately and efficiently monitors all pending insurance and charity care reports and work lists.
  • Counsels patient and families regarding long term and short term rehabilitation applications with the county.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by department leadership.

Financial Counseling Support Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with insurance verification/authorization, patient account maintenance or government insurance programs
  • Must pass a Financial Counseling Support test with a score of 75% or higher, administered by Human Resources
  • Certified Application Counselor (CAC) Certification required within 3 months of employment.
