Job Description

Overview:

Supporting the Finance & Planning function within Alberta Homes as well as Alberta Commercial is the responsibility of the Senior Finance Analyst. This is done through preparing and consolidating monthly guidance and annual Business Plan templates and numbers for Alberta Homes and Commercial and obtaining the supporting information to complete the process. The role will also be responsible for preparing reporting and analysis for management, preparing reporting to BRPI, as well as conducting ad hoc evaluations as needed. In addition, the Senior Financial Analyst will help model various scenarios required for operations, including proformas and unit continuities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Forecasting and guidance processes for Homes and Commercial, at the consolidated Calgary, Edmonton & Alberta levels. The specific tasks include the following:

  • Maintenance of continuity spreadsheets for actuals and working with operations to ensure the accuracy of the forecast for these numbers.

  • Support ongoing coordination of data activities within financial systems such as BRP Insights, Vena & Rook.

  • Assist with monthly guidance as required for Alberta including preparing, consolidating and reviewing.

  • Work with operations to ensure accuracy of lot zero budgets, rental rates, and absorption, for Alberta, including maintenance of rates in Rook.

  • Assist with the preparation of all monthly / quarterly reporting (Alberta).

  • Preparing sensitivity and scenario analysis as required.

  • Process improvement on guidance process and systems utilization.

  • Assist with forecasting enhancement projects & data management within forecasting software/tools. (ex. NSE/Vena)

  • Support projects that leverage reporting tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency of forecasting models.

  • Assist as needed with the Elimination guidance.

  • Maintenance and creation of Multi-Family Proformas and Commercial models.

  • Development of the business plan for the Alberta Homes and Commercial division, including Calgary & Edmonton City levels and the combined Alberta level. Assist with the Elimination files for lot profit elimination and recognition as part of the Business plan process. This will include (but is not limited to) the following specific tasks:

  • Work directly with Ops teams to obtain all inputs required for Calgary business plan.

  • Developing DCF models related to Calgary business planning.

  • Roll forward of templates for the Business Plan process.

  • Assisting with Calgary & Edmonton City consolidated divisional and asset reporting, as well as BRPI reporting. (City Level & Alberta)

  • Assisting with valuation/EVA & impairment analysis.

  • Preparing schedules and compiling data for various presentations and management review.

  • Support the preparation and presentation of the financial analysis to support various Homes and Commercial central initiatives. The specific initiatives include, but are not limited to:

  • Quarterly actual results' analysis.

  • Supporting in system conversion to Vena.

  • Ensuring accurate actuals are inputted in various templates and reporting tools.

  • Financial analysis on various operations related projects.

  • Support Operational, Financial, and System Oriented teams to complete additional projects as vital when they arise.

  • Identify and implement process improvements as applicable.


What You'll Bring:

  • An undergraduate degree in Commerce, Accounting/Finance, (or equivalent mix of education and experience)

  • CPA or CFA designation

  • 4+ years of progressively responsible related experience for a major or medium-sized company

  • Advanced Excel user

  • Strong attention to detail and proven accuracy skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment

  • Exemplary task and time management skills

  • Proficient in Word and Outlook

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to proactively identify risks/issues and recommend solutions

  • Proficiency in planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting and building, and managing complex financial models and financial statements
