Job description


The Maine Business School (AACSB Accredited) at the University of Maine seeks applicants for a teaching faculty position at the rank of Lecturer in Finance, with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2027. This will be a full-time, ongoing 10.5-month appointment, renewed annually based on satisfactory performance. The standard work year is September 1st through July 15th. Typical hiring range is $85,000 to $95,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
This position will support teaching needs in finance, with a primary emphasis on insurance, enterprise risk management, and financial risk analysis. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of educational offerings related to property and casualty insurance, life and health insurance, employee benefits, underwriting, enterprise risk management, and emerging risks affecting organizations and communities.
Essential duties and responsibilities included, and are not limited to:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate finance courses, including Principles of Finance.
  • Support teaching needs in finance, with a primary emphasis on insurance, enterprise risk management, and financial risk analysis.
  • Contribute to the development of educational offerings related to property and casualty insurance, life and health insurance, employee benefits, underwriting, enterprise risk management, and emerging risks affecting organizations and communities.
  • Collaborate with industry partners.
  • Support internships and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Develop professional pathways for students interested in insurance careers.
  • Contribute to curriculum innovation.
  • Teach four courses each fall and spring semester and two courses during the summer (primarily online), with the possibility of reassigned effort for significant service, program development, or experiential learning initiatives.
  • Participate in AACSB accreditation activities.
  • Provide service to the Maine Business School, the University, the profession, and the broader community.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • MBA, MS in Finance, MS in Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Insurance, or related master's degree.
  • Ability to teach Principles of Finance.
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in insurance, risk management, underwriting, actuarial services, employee benefits, or related fields.

Preferred:
  • CPCU, ARM, CRM, CFA, ASA, ACAS, FCAS, FSA, or comparable professional credential.
  • Ph.D., DBA, or specialized doctoral degree in Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, Actuarial Science, or related field.
  • More than eight years of professional experience in insurance or risk management.
  • Evidence of successful university-level teaching.
  • Experience teaching online and in-person courses.
  • Expertise in enterprise risk management, actuarial science, insurance markets, or financial risk analysis.
  • Experience building partnerships with industry organizations.
