Job description

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Operational Risk Officer within the Finance & Financial Reporting Risk Oversight (FFRRO) team under Operational Risk Management Team (ORM). This position is responsible for delivering on FFRRO oversight responsibilities specifically focused on Corporate & Investment Banking Controllership activities. This includes Independent Price Verification, Corporate Investment Banking (CIB) Accounting, and CIB Product Control.


In this role, you will:

  • Provide independent oversight and assessment of the Corporate Investment Banking (CIB) Controllers function across all aspects of the risk management lifecycle, including risk planning, identification, assessment, control execution, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Develop and communicate a clear, business-centric view of operational risks and control effectiveness, leveraging knowledge of the CIB Controllers organization and its operating environment.
  • Advise and challenge risk-related decisions involving risk-acceptance, new products, strategic initiatives, and significant business changes to ensure risks are appropriately identified, assessed, and managed.
  • Partner with CIB Controllers and other stakeholders to strengthen risk management practices, promote accountability, and support the effective execution of change initiatives.
  • Participate in governance routines and leadership forums to provide independent risk perspectives, assess the implications of business decisions, and recommend effective risk management alternatives.
  • Analyze risk data, trends, and emerging issues to identify opportunities, best practices, and areas requiring additional oversight or challenge.
  • Coordinate across Independent Risk Management and other lines of defense to ensure consistent oversight, effective escalation, and alignment of risk priorities across risk types and business activities.
  • Lead strategic projects and initiatives while coaching and mentoring less experienced team members to enhance organizational effectiveness and risk management capabilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Operational Risk experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Big 4 public accounting, financial markets, banking experience.
  • CPA or CIA preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience managing risk (including audit, compliance, or product control experience).
  • Understanding of Finance functions and operations including accounting, treasury and regulatory reporting.
  • Practical experience working with product control or middle-office/back-office functions is a plus (financial markets, derivatives, traded products, broker-dealer operations, and hedging).
  • Strong executive communication skills, in both written and verbal formats. Sound project management experience with the ability to rationalize operations to drive efficient, sustainable, and effective outcomes.
  • Meaningful knowledge of risk management frameworks and methodology. This includes risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance, monitoring routines, and risk management programs.
  • Proven leadership skills to influence change and drive alignment across all levels of stakeholders to develop and deliver repeatable end-to-end risk management solutions.
  • Strong strategic and conceptual thinking skills. Exceptional data and analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Robust Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) skills.
  • Experience utilizing Artificial intelligence tools and prompts to efficiently deliver accurate and value-oriented results.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and across the organization; where flexibility, collaboration and adaptability are important.
  • Proven ability to directly engage with business partners to assess processes, risks, and control activities against risk appetite.

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$159,000.00 - $279,000.00
