What are some common challenges a financial risk consultant faces when working with clients across different industries?

Financial Risk Consultants often encounter the challenge of adapting their risk assessment frameworks to fit the unique regulatory environments, operational structures, and risk appetites of clients from diverse industries. Each sector—such as banking, insurance, or manufacturing—has distinct compliance requirements and market dynamics, requiring consultants to quickly learn and tailor their strategies accordingly. Additionally, consultants must communicate complex risk concepts in a way that is understandable and actionable for stakeholders who may not have a deep financial background. Building trust and maintaining clear communication are key to overcoming these challenges and delivering effective risk mitigation solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a financial risk consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Financial Risk Consultant, you need strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of finance and risk management, and typically a degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Familiarity with risk assessment software, data analysis tools like Excel and SQL, and certifications such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager) or CFA are highly beneficial. Outstanding communication, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail help you explain complex risks and collaborate effectively with clients and stakeholders. These skills are crucial for accurately identifying, evaluating, and mitigating financial risks to protect clients’ assets and ensure regulatory compliance.

Job description

THE WORK:

We believe solving complex financial challenges demands more than cutting-edge technology - it requires bold thinkers who can act decisively, move fast, and guide clients through transformation with confidence and creativity.

As a Risk Implementation Consultant, you won't just configure software. You will partner with treasury, accounting, and finance teams to understand their most pressing operational challenges, architect scalable solutions, and lead successful implementations across:

  • Debt & Investments
  • Derivatives - FX (Forwards, Swaps, Options) & Interest Rate (IRS, Caps, Floors, Collars)
  • Hedge Accounting (ASC 815 / IFRS 9)
  • Accounting Workflows & Financial Reporting
  • Cash Flow & Balance Sheet Hedging

The ideal candidate is a powerhouse: creative, energetic, relentlessly solutions-focused, and capable of managing multiple high-stakes priorities without losing momentum.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Lead Discovery & Strategic Consulting

Drive high-impact discovery workshops with energy and precision. Uncover client pain points, map business processes, surface accounting requirements, and design the path forward - all while building the trusted relationships that make transformations stick.

Architect Bold Solutions

Design and document future-state solution architectures that align Ripple Treasury's capabilities with each client's unique business objectives and regulatory requirements. Bring creative problem-solving and technical depth to every engagement - no two clients are the same, and you'll thrive on that challenge.

Deliver Across Key Risk Disciplines

Debt & Investments

Streamline debt lifecycle management, interest accruals, investment accounting, and exposure reporting. Help clients gain crystal-clear visibility into their funding and investment positions.

Derivatives - FX & Interest Rate

Lead the implementation of comprehensive derivative management solutions that give clients real-time command over their risk exposures. You will serve as a subject matter expert across both foreign exchange and interest rate derivative instruments - helping clients design, automate, and govern their derivative programs with precision and confidence.

Foreign Exchange (FX) Derivatives

  • Configure and manage FX derivative instruments including forwards, swaps, options, and cross-currency swaps within Ripple Treasury
  • Automate FX exposure identification, aggregation, and netting across multi-entity global organizations
  • Design and implement FX hedging strategies aligned with client risk policies, including cash flow and balance sheet hedging programs
  • Streamline end-to-end FX workflows: trade capture, confirmations, settlements, revaluations, and P&L reporting
  • Support mark-to-market (MTM) valuation and counterparty exposure monitoring

Interest Rate Derivatives (IRS)

  • Implement and manage interest rate derivative instruments including interest rate swaps (IRS), caps, floors, collars, and swaptions
  • Help clients model and monitor interest rate risk across fixed and floating rate debt portfolios, optimizing their risk-reward profile
  • Configure accrual calculations, reset schedules, payment processing, and rate fixings for swap portfolios
  • Support fair value and cash flow hedge accounting for IRS instruments under ASC 815 and IFRS 9, including effectiveness testing and journal entry automation
  • Deliver MTM valuations, sensitivity analysis, and regulatory reporting support for interest rate derivative programs

Hedge Accounting

Guide clients through complex hedge accounting requirements under ASC 815 and IFRS. Own designation, effectiveness testing, documentation, and valuation - while helping organizations slash manual processes and stay audit-ready.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

Partner with Accounting and Finance teams to modernize reporting processes, automate journal entries, and improve reconciliation workflows. Ensure seamless alignment between treasury operations and accounting treatment.

Implement with Confidence & Ownership

Take a hands-on, high-velocity role configuring and deploying Ripple Treasury solutions. You're a problem solver, a quick thinker, and a multi-tasker who keeps projects moving - and brings them across the finish line. Every time.

Lead Through Complexity

Serve as the key escalation point during implementations. Rapidly identify blockers, evaluate options, and drive resolution with urgency and accountability. You operate at full speed even when the pressure is on.

Energize Clients Through Training

Deliver impactful, engaging training sessions that genuinely empower end users and drive adoption. You don't just hand over a system - you ignite confidence in the people who use it.

Collaborate Cross-Functionally

Partner actively with Sales, Product Management, Engineering, and Support to relay client insights, sharpen delivery processes, and shape the product roadmap. Your voice drives real change.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

    • 3+ years in client-facing consulting, treasury/risk technology implementations, or SaaS delivery
    • Deep understanding of treasury and financial risk management: debt, FX and interest rate derivatives, hedge accounting, and accounting workflows
    • Proven ability to analyze complex business challenges and build creative, scalable client solutions
    • Strong solution architecture and business process design chops
    • Exceptional communicator - you translate complex concepts into clear, compelling business value
    • A relentless drive to problem-solve quickly and manage competing priorities without losing quality
    • Natural client leader with a proactive, consultative mindset
    • Technical fluency with treasury systems, ERPs, banking platforms, and financial integrations
    • Highly responsive, collaborative, and accountable - you own your outcomes
    • Experience working directly with Corporate Treasury, Accounting, Finance, and Risk Management teams

You're not afraid to challenge conventional approaches. You bring fresh thinking, creative energy, and a solutions-first mindset to every client engagement.

Who Thrives Here:

This role is built for someone who is:

  • Energized by complexity - not intimidated by it
  • Creative in how they solve problems and architect solutions
  • A natural multi-tasker who keeps multiple workstreams moving with clarity
  • Confident enough to lead clients through ambiguity and change
  • Driven to deliver results - and proud of the impact they create
