Position Summary

HASI is currently seeking an Analyst/Associate to join its Portfolio Management team in Annapolis, MD. This individual will support the monitoring, analysis, and management of HASI's existing investment portfolio and will also assist with due diligence and transition support for new investment opportunities. The role is well suited for candidates with strong financial modeling and analytical skills, an interest in climate investing, and a collaborative approach to working across functions and teams .

At the Analyst level, this role will focus primarily on modeling, financial analysis, research, reporting, and support for portfolio monitoring and new investment diligence. At the Associate level, this role will be expected to take greater ownership of modeling, portfolio analytics, commercial analysis, and workstreams supporting new portfolio onboarding, while exercising more independent judgment and helping guide junior team members where appropriate.

 Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed reviews of operating portfolio performance across grid connected, renewable natural gas, or behind-the-meter investments, including analysis of production, pricing, revenue, operating expenses, and other key asset-level performance indicators
  • Work closely with investment counterparties to collect and verify operational and financial key performance indicators and address commercial issues
  • Build, maintain, and enhance financial models, including project operating proformas and portfolio-level analyses, to assess economics, identify risks, and evaluate performance relative to underwriting expectations
  • Support the development and refinement of internal portfolio monitoring tools, analytics, and reporting processes
  • Work closely and collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve objectives above
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc briefing decks, and management materials that synthesize portfolio performance, emerging risks, and potential value-enhancement opportunities
  • Support due diligence processes for investments, including analyzing production, operating expenses, price forecasts, and other key underwriting inputs
  • For Associates: take primary ownership of designated modeling and analytical workstreams, identify key issues affecting portfolio performance and potential opportunities to improve investment outcome and propose constructive solutions and recommendations

  Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year institution required; Master's in Finance, Economics, Business
  • Analyst: typically, 2-3 years of relevant experience
  • Associate: typically, 3-5 years of relevant experience, including demonstrated strength in financial modeling and independent analytical ownership
  • Relevant experience may include prior work in renewable energy project finance, asset management / valuation, or finance / investment banking in the power, infrastructure, energy, or climate sectors
  • Excellent MS Excel financial modeling and data mining skills, with demonstrable experience working with complex models, are necessary requirements
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, innovative, and entrepreneurial environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Curious, highly-organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities while adapting quickly to changing priorities
  • Dependable, proactive and able to work independently while contributing as a supportive team member
  • Strong interest in climate investing and renewable energy markets
  • For Associates: demonstrated excellence in modeling, ability to evaluate assumptions thoughtfully, summarize model outputs accurately, and identify both transaction-level and broader portfolio issues
$100,000 - $147,500 a year

Salary Range 

Expected salary range of $100,000-$147,500 based on experience and location.
