Senior Attorney Editor, Legal Commentary Editorial

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Senior Attorney Editor to contribute to our highly respected Witkin Library and Rutter Group Practice Guides. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in California law to conduct in-depth legal research, rigorous analysis, and sophisticated writing, directly shaping the comprehensive legal commentary and practical guidance relied upon by legal professionals across the state. About the Role

In this opportunity as a Senior Attorney Editor, you will:

  • Conduct rigorous legal research and analysis of authorities, actively monitoring new case law, legislation, and legal developments to inform content.
  • Draft, review, and meticulously edit high-quality legal commentary and practical guidance for the Witkin Library and Rutter Group Practice Guides, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and conformity to established editorial standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with outside authors and internal partners to build relationships, gather insights, and ensure seamless content production.
  • Leverage deep legal knowledge to support content innovation, including testing and validating AI solutions by contributing to gold data creation and model output evaluation.
  • Manage and prioritize work effectively under demanding deadlines and established publishing schedules, communicating clearly with all stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the legal market environment, including customer needs and competitor offerings, to ensure content relevance.

About You

You're a fit for the role of Senior Attorney Editor if you have the following required qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active admission to the California Bar are mandatory.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience practicing law in California, demonstrating a deep understanding of California legal practice and procedures.
  • Superior legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with the proven ability to interpret, analyze, and distill complex legal material into clear, concise, and accurate content.
  • Exceptional editorial judgment and meticulous attention to detail, ensuring content accuracy, style consistency, and compliance with publishing standards.
  • Proven ability to adapt quickly to new fields of law and critically evaluate content for accuracy and completeness.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with internal teams, outside authors, and stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Additional preferred qualifications include:

  • Legal publishing experience as an author or editor.
  • Proficiency in Westlaw online legal research platform and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience working with content management systems or similar publishing tools.

Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
