Heritage Bank currently has an exciting opportunity within our organization!

Our Risk and Compliance team is seeking an operational risk analyst to join the team. This position is responsible for supporting the Operational Risk Management (ORM) framework under the Enterprise Risk Framework (ERM), and will contribute to the development and ongoing support of the bank's risk management programs, in accordance with the bank's strategic direction, risk appetite, and all regulatory guidelines and industry standards.

This position is full time and fully on-site at the Southern Operations Center in Tacoma, WA. Typical schedule is Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Base Salary Range:

$36.44- $45.55 - $54.56 per hour

The Role at a Glance:

  • Assists with coordinating the compilation, data aggregation, and updating of enterprise-level financial and/or non-financial risk metrics.
  • Maintains effective relationships with business line management and staff to support business’ risk management practices including risk evaluations, monitoring, and responses.
  • Designs, develops, and maintains risk metrics, dashboards, reporting tools, trend analyses / reports.
  • Assists and supports cross-functional risk assessments to develop a comprehensive, enterprise-wide view of operational risk.
  • Monitors, identifies, and escalates significant instances of business units or enterprise functions not adhering to the framework, ORM lifecycle requirements, or other risk governance documents.
  • Aggregates critical risk data and develops reporting to support the ERM program.
  • Contributes to the development, maintenance, and communication of risk policies, standards, and procedural guidance.
  • Contributes to developing, reviewing, and monitoring ERM Framework measurement components, including risk appetite, risk tolerance thresholds, and key risk indicators (KRIs).
  • Monitors industry trends, best practices, and guidance relating to ORM, and incorporates, as applicable, into the Bank`s ORM framework.
  • Maintains the ERM Risk Register and supports issue tracking and workflow processes.
  • Supports and manages the Bank’s resiliency program, including business continuity planning and testing.
  • Evaluates, monitors, and reviews frontline implementation and adherence of performance and incentive compensation programs, to ensure alignment and compliance with the Incentive Compensation Policy.
  • Maintains accurate audit documentation to support governance and regulatory reviews. May participate and/or lead the collection of data and information for regulatory examinations.

Core Skills and Qualification:

  • H.S. Diploma required. Bachelor's Degree Business, Accounting, Finance, Risk Management or equivalent preferred.
  • 3+ years recent experience in a similar and/or relevant risk operations or compliance role in a financial services industry and community bank environment of at least $5 - $10 billion in assets required.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of industry accepted enterprise and/or operational risk management frameworks required.
  • Recent experience in finance, internal or external auditing, accounting, legal, knowledge of governance best practices, and understanding of the bank's products, services and distribution channels preferred.
  • Provides an exceptional level of quality service for internal/external customers; responds to customers' needs, questions, and concerns in an accurate, effective, and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with all business units, management, staff, regulators and audit personnel, to achieve common goals.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, written, and telephone etiquette business communication skills, and well-developed interpersonal skills, including effective questioning strategies and presentation skills, and the ability to build rapport and professionally interact at all levels within the organization; with the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well.
  • Effective organizational, time management, data review/analytics, and processing skills; with the ability to manage multiple assignments, goals, and reporting requests, ensuring priorities are set, with the ability to meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines with moderate oversight and direction.
  • Strong analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy and produce meaningful reporting, data, and solutions for emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of principles, procedures, compliance requirements, state/federal regulations, and policies related to assigned area.
  • Knowledge of risk management practices, and demonstrated ability to assess broad-based business impacts and identify risk trends, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Ability to read, research, analyze and interpret technical procedures, government regulations, trade journals, and legal documents.
  • Unquestionable integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information required.
  • General working knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management.
  • Proficient and advanced use and understanding MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook), and financial management data processing systems, with the ability to adapt to new products and technologies quickly.
  • Experience with Governance, Risk Management and Compliance (GRC) tools - preferred.
  • Certified Risk Analyst-GAFM, Certified Risk Management Professional (RIMS-CRMP), Professional Risk Manager (PRM), Certified Enterprise Risk Professional (CERP), Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA),Certified Risk and Compliance Management Professional (CRCMP) - preferred

  • Climate controlled office environment.
  • Work involves being able to concentrate on the matter at hand, under sometimes distracting work conditions and frequent employee and/or customer contacts and interruptions during the day.
  • Work requires regular attendance, punctuality and adherence to agreed-upon schedule with willingness to work a flexible and/or rotating schedule and or extended hours, and assist at other locations or remotely, as needed.

Physical Demands/Effort:

  • Work may involve the constant use of computer screens, reading of reports, and sitting throughout the day.
