Job description

At Conestoga, we believe good business and responsible resource management go hand in hand. We're focused on developing low-carbon solutions that make a difference while staying grounded in something just as important-taking care of our people, customers, and communities.

Our values guide how we work every day:

Caring for People | Accountability | Integrity | Passion for Excellence

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced accounting professional to join our team as Assistant Controller in Liberal, Kansas.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows accounting, enjoys improving processes, and is comfortable working across the organization. You'll work closely with our Controller and accounting team to oversee financial reporting, the close process, internal controls, audits, and day-to-day accounting operations.

You'll also play an important role in our ERP implementation and help us evaluate how we do things today and build better, more efficient accounting processes for the future. That includes system testing, data validation, reporting, internal controls, and helping ensure the new system works for both Accounting and the business. These responsibilities align closely with the role outlined in the JD.

What You'll Do
  • Help lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, intercompany activity, and financial reporting.
  • Review financial information for accuracy and make sure reporting is timely and reliable.
  • Serve as a key Accounting resource during ERP implementation, testing, data validation, reporting development, and process design.
  • Work with the Controller and CFO to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and reduce unnecessary manual work.
  • Support annual audits, accounting policies, technical accounting research, and U.S. GAAP compliance.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, management reporting, and special projects.
  • Partner with Operations, IT, and other departments to solve problems and improve financial information.
  • Coach and support members of the accounting team and help prioritize work and deadlines.

The position also has direct supervisory responsibility for accounting staff, so I would keep the leadership component visible in the posting rather than making this sound like an individual-contributor role.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with solid accounting experience who can step in, understand the numbers, and help lead the work-not someone who needs to learn the accounting cycle from the ground up.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience with month-end/year-end close and annual audits
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • ERP implementation, conversion, or system upgrade experience is a plus
  • Manufacturing, agriculture, ethanol, energy, or other industrial accounting experience is a plus
What We Offer

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package, including:

Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance | 401(k) | Life Insurance | Flexible Spending Account (FSA) | Paid Time Off (PTO)
