As a Financial Literacy Instructor, you will work directly with students to introduce real-world money concepts such as saving, budgeting, investing, credit, and goal setting.

8 Cents in a Jar is a cornerstone of financial stability in Central Florida, guiding students within the ALICE population and families living at or below 200% of the federal poverty line. Since 2016, this nonprofit has steered students aged 8 to 28 toward economic mobility through targeted financial education. Our mission is to enlighten youth from under-resourced communities with financial life skills and resources to prevent poverty and rise to a higher economic position.We nurture fiscal responsibility and self-reliance through meticulously designed educational initiatives, integrating personal finance, financial social work, and community wealth-building. This approach helps students heal from financial traumas, make informed financial decisions, and contribute to the local economy.The impact is evident in the tangible progress of our students, who have collectively saved substantial amounts and are moving closer to a positive net worth. In a region marked by financial disparities, 8 Cents in a Jar offers students a chance to break free from generational poverty and forge a future filled with economic opportunities.
Description
At 8 Cents in a Jar, we believe financial literacy is a gateway to economic mobility. Money knowledge builds confidence, opportunity, and the ability to make informed choices.
As a Financial Literacy Instructor, you will lead engaging lessons that introduce students to foundational financial concepts and help them connect money decisions to real-life experiences. Through discussion, interactive activities, and practical examples, you will help students understand how financial knowledge shapes their futures. Instruction will take place in person within the Greater Orlando area, facilitating student learning sessions on Tuesdays (4 PM - 6 PM), Wednesdays, and Thursdays (4 PM - 6 PM).

  • Balance structure and flexibility when facilitating student discussions about money and decision-making.
  • Manage classroom energy with confidence and encouragement.
  • Follow lesson plans while adapting delivery to meet student needs.
Our Must-Haves Include
  • Experience teaching, tutoring, or facilitating youth programs.
  • Knowledge of basic personal finance concepts (saving, budgeting, credit, investing).
  • Experience working with youth from ALICE households or economically marginalized communities preferred.
  • Ability to manage a structured classroom environment with active student participation.
  • Reliable transportation within Central Florida for in-person instruction.
  • Availability during scheduled program hours.
  • Completion of required background screening.
  • Respect for the lived experiences, cultures, and environments of the students we serve.
