Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for leading DMA's accounting operations and ensuring the integrity of the company's financial reporting. This role oversees all accounting functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, inventory accounting, internal controls, cash management, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Working cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, Product Management, Sales, Human Resources, and Executive Leadership, the Controller provides financial insight that supports strategic decision-making, operational efficiency, and long-term business growth.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on financial leader with strong analytical skills, a passion for process improvement, and experience in manufacturing or distribution environments.

This is a full-time, on-site position located in Loris, SC. Remote work is not available.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead the company's accounting operations and financial reporting functions. 
  • Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans. 
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support executive decision-making. 
  • Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency. 
Accounting Operations
  • Oversee General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Cost Accounting, and Inventory Accounting. 
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. 
  • Prepare accurate financial statements and executive reporting packages. 
  • Ensure timely and accurate account reconciliations. 
Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. 
  • Maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets. 
  • Coordinate annual financial audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors. 
  • Prepare lender reporting, financial covenant reporting, and other required financial documentation. 
  • Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local financial regulations. 
Cost & Inventory Management
  • Oversee inventory accounting and valuation across multiple distribution centers. 
  • Analyze inventory costs, variances, and operational performance. 
  • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to improve inventory accuracy and financial performance. 
  • Support cost reduction initiatives while maintaining financial integrity.

  • Present financial results and recommendations to executive leadership. 
Process Improvement & Systems
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls. 
  • Drive automation and efficiencies within NetSuite and other financial systems. 
  • Support ERP enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and documentation. 
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Accounting team. 
  • Foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. 
  • Establish performance expectations and support employee development. 
  • Promote a culture of accuracy, integrity, and exceptional customer service. 

Requirements

QualificationsEducation

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

CPA designation is preferred.

Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience. 
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a Controller or senior accounting management role. 
  • Manufacturing, distribution, or inventory-intensive industry experience strongly preferred. 
  • Experience leading month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. 
  • Experience managing inventory and cost accounting. 
Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
