Job description

The Business Development Intern will gain hands-on experience in the client acquisition side of a wealth management practice. Working alongside Financial Advisors and the business development team, the intern will learn how to identify prospective clients, build relationships, generate new business opportunities, and support the firm's growth initiatives through proactive outreach and marketing efforts.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE INTERNSHIP:
  • Develop an understanding of the wealth management sales process, from prospecting through client onboarding.
  • Learn effective business development strategies, including cold calling, email outreach, networking, and referral generation.
  • Conduct research to identify qualified prospective clients, centers of influence, and strategic referral partners.
  • Assist Financial Advisors with maintaining and expanding prospect pipelines using CRM systems.
  • Build confidence in making outbound calls to schedule introductory meetings and qualify prospective clients.
  • Develop communication and relationship-building skills through client and prospect interactions.
  • Learn how advisors position their value proposition and differentiate their services in the marketplace.
  • Assist with seminar, webinar, and marketing event preparation to support business development initiatives.
  • Gain exposure to financial planning and investment advisory services to better understand client needs and advisor recommendations.
  • Learn how marketing, client service, and operations work together to support advisor growth and long-term client relationships.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Pursuing a BS/BA degree; rising junior, senior preferred.
  • Strong interest in sales, business development, financial services, or wealth management.
  • Comfortable speaking with new people and making outbound prospecting calls.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Self-motivated, competitive, and goal-oriented with a positive attitude.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of professionalism, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); CRM experience is a plus.
  • Ability to build rapport, establish relationships, and communicate effectively with clients and prospects.
  • Previous experience in sales, customer service, fundraising, or business development is a plus, but not required.

This position is a fall internship where you will need to be able to work out of our New York (Midtown) office.

The compensation package for this position consists of a base salary, The salary range for this position will be $17.00.Total compensation packages at Janney are based on experience, skills, credentials, and geographical location, of each specific candidate.
