Hammer & Steel seeks an experienced Corporate Controller responsible for leading the Company's accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance activities, and financial processes. This position provides strategic and operational leadership for the accounting function while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the Company's financial information.  The Corporate Controller serves as a key business partner to the Chief Financial Officer and  operational leadership team, supporting financial decision-making, process improvement,  business performance, risk management, and long-term growth initiatives. The position is responsible for developing and leading a high-performing accounting organization while strengthening financial controls, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiency across the business. 


This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional overtime hours may be required to meet the demands and needs of the business, particularly during month-end close, year-end close, audits, budgeting, or special projects.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 


Financial Leadership & Accounting Operations

  • Lead and oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, credit, collections, treasury activities, payroll-related accounting entries, banking activity, and account reconciliations.
  • Direct the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.  
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, management reports, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules.  
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, lender requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Establish, maintain, and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial governance practices.

Financial Management & Analysis  

  • Monitor cash flow, banking activity, credit facilities, debt schedules, and related reporting requirements.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial planning processes. 
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs), management reporting, and business analytics that support executive decision-making.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to improve profitability, operational performance, cost control, and business results.  

Operational Partnership

  • Partner with sales, rental, service, parts, and operations leadership to improve financial visibility and drive business performance.
  • Oversee accounting for heavy equipment sales, rental fleet activity, inventory, parts, service, warranty, fixed assets, depreciation, disposals, transfers, and financing arrangements.
  •  Support company growth initiatives, acquisitions, expansion projects, and other strategic business objectives as needed.  

Systems, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Serve as the financial systems leader for accounting and finance applications, including ERP administration, reporting solutions, process improvement initiatives, user support, and vendor management.  
  • Coordinate audit, tax, insurance, lender, and regulatory reporting requirements. 
  • Support the Company's insurance and risk management programs, including policy renewals, underwriting submissions, claims support, and broker relationships. 
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting systems, workflows, reporting tools, controls, and business processes.  

Leadership & Team Development  

  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting department personnel to support professional growth and organizational effectiveness.
  • Establish performance expectations, accountability measures, and development plans for accounting team members.
  • Foster a culture of integrity, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer service throughout the accounting function.
  • Build organizational capability and succession planning within the accounting and finance team.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. 
  • Seven (7) or more years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
  • Significant experience with financial reporting, month-end close, internal controls, budgeting, and accounting operations.  
  • Prior leadership experience within an accounting or finance organization.   
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.  

Preferred 

  • CPA, CMA, MBA, or equivalent professional credentials. 
  • Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or comparable financial leadership position. 
  • Experience in heavy equipment, construction equipment, dealership, distribution, manufacturing, industrial services, or related industries. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or similar ERP platforms. 
  • Experience supporting multi-location operations and complex inventory environments.
