Reports To: Town Manager

About the Opportunity

ProNexus has been exclusively retained by the Town of Northfield to conduct the search for its next Finance Director. We are seeking an accomplished municipal finance leader who is passionate about public service and ready to make a meaningful impact on the Town's financial future.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join Northfield's leadership team and oversee all aspects of the municipality's financial operations. Reporting directly to the Town Manager, the Finance Director will provide strategic financial leadership while ensuring fiscal responsibility, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and oversee all municipal financial operations.
  • Prepare, monitor, and analyze departmental and municipal budgets, including financial forecasting and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, financial policies, and procedures in accordance with GAAP and GASB standards.
  • Manage payroll administration, employee benefits, and all required federal and state reporting.
  • Develop and implement cash management and investment strategies to maximize municipal resources.
  • Analyze enterprise funds and recommend annual rate adjustments.
  • Oversee grant administration, including financial reporting and compliance.
  • Administer the financial aspects of capital improvement and major construction projects.
  • Coordinate the annual external audit and serve as the primary liaison with auditors.
  • Manage the Town's insurance programs, including workers' compensation, health, dental, life, disability, property, casualty, and liability coverage.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop finance and accounting staff.
  • Prepare financial reports and presentations for municipal leadership and governing bodies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Town Manager.

What We're Looking For

Successful candidates will possess:

  • Strong knowledge of municipal finance, governmental budgeting, and fund accounting.
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP and GASB standards.
  • Experience developing financial policies, internal controls, and best practices.
  • Proven leadership and staff management experience.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to payroll, accounts payable, electronic banking, and municipal finance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Significant experience in municipal finance or a senior financial leadership role is required.
  • Prior local government experience is strongly preferred.
