An Overview
The City of Alexandria Finance Department seeks a motivated, detail-oriented Treasury Accountant I to join the Treasury Division. This position supports the collection, reconciliation, reporting, and safeguarding of City revenues while providing exceptional customer service to residents, businesses, and visitors.
The Treasury Accountant I performs professional accounting, reconciliation, research, and customer service work involving real estate taxes, personal property taxes, business taxes, parking citations, cashiering operations, banking activities, payment processing, and related financial systems. The position operates in a fast-paced environment with significant public interaction and strict deadlines, particularly during tax due dates and major billing cycles.

About the Department
The City of Alexandria's Finance Department is a fast-paced, diverse, and customer service focused operation that is responsible for: the assessment, collection, and enforcement of all City taxes, the management of cash flow and investments, accounting for and reporting the City's financial position, processing payroll, executing a fair and competitive procurement environment, assessing all real and personal property in the City, managing the City's risk and safety programs, and managing the City's pension plans. The Finance Department has seven divisions and in fiscal year 2027 is operating with a total budget of $16.6 million and 107 FTE positions. The goal of the Finance Department is to treat all employees, citizens, and business owners professionally, with fairness and compassion.
Minimum & Additional Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in local government finance, treasury, banking, accounting, revenue collection, or accounts receivable.
  • Experience performing account reconciliations.
  • Experience providing customer service in a financial environment.
  • Experience working with ERP, cashiering, banking, tax, or financial systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel proficiency.

The starting salary range for this position is $55,546.92 to $74,406.28, based on qualifications and experience. The incumbent can eventually be awarded up to $97,749.08 with tenure and job performance.
