Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Finance plays a key leadership role in supporting the Controller and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Accounting department. This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the hotel's financial reporting, ensuring compliance with Hyatt standards and internal controls, and driving financial excellence through accurate reporting, analysis, and operational support.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with strong technical accounting knowledge, exceptional attention to detail, and a passion for developing high-performing teams.

This is an on-property leadership role within a Hyatt-managed hotel , offering the opportunity to make a direct impact on daily operations, team development, and overall commercial success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, review, and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Review preliminary financial statements and financial results with the Controller.
  • Analyze financial variances and partner with department leaders to provide meaningful explanations and recommendations.
  • Support financial forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning initiatives.
Accounting Operations
  • Oversee daily accounting functions to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Manage general ledger activity and maintain the integrity of financial records.
  • Assist with monthly close processes, inventory controls, cash management, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support system administration and ensure effective utilization of financial systems.
Compliance & Controls
  • Help oversee compliance with Hyatt policies, internal controls, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
  • Monitor processes to ensure proper fiscal management and safeguard company assets.
  • Support internal and external audits, including preparation of workpapers and responses to auditor requests.
  • Ensure compliance with company, brand, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Assist in leading, coaching, and developing Accounting team members.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, and performance development of colleagues.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support the Controller in creating an engaged, high-performing Finance team aligned with Hyatt's values.
Strategic Partnership
  • Serve as a key business partner to operational leaders across the hotel.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies, strengthen controls, and enhance financial performance.
  • Assist with special projects, reporting requests, and strategic financial analyses as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a hotel or hospitality environment.
  • Previous experience supervising, coaching, and developing accounting team members.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Experience supporting SOX compliance initiatives and audit processes preferred.
  • Prior experience with MICROS, ADP Enterprise, TimeSaver, Opera PMS, and other Hyatt systems preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to influence and build strong relationships across departments while serving as a trusted business partner.
  • Possesses a high level of energy, entrepreneurial spirit, and a results-oriented mindset with a focus on driving financial performance.
