Nature & Purpose of Position
The SHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM) Marketing & Communications Department is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student worker to support daily marketing operations for SHSU-COM and SHSU Physicians. This position reports to the Director of Marketing, PR & Communications and provides hands-on experience in higher education, healthcare marketing, digital communications, and brand operations.
This position is based in Conroe, TX, at SHSU-COM.
The student worker will assist with maintaining accurate and timely website content, reviewing digital materials for quality control, supporting event communications, organizing marketing assets, and monitoring trends across peer institutions. This role is ideal for a student interested in marketing, communications, business, healthcare, or digital media and seeking professional experience in a fast-paced environment.
Primary responsibilities may include:
  • Review webpages for accuracy, consistency, and timeliness
  • Make routine website updates using approved content and existing templates
  • Remove expired information and flag outdated content or broken links
  • Ensure events are posted, updated, and removed as needed
  • Confirm dates, times, locations, and details match approved materials
  • Proofread marketing content for grammar, formatting, and consistency
  • Assist with maintaining organized libraries of photos, files, logos, and templates
  • Monitor peer colleges of osteopathic medicine and healthcare organizations for notable campaigns, trends, and announcements
  • Compile benchmarking examples, summaries, and basic reports
  • Support occasional special events, promotions, and departmental projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Other Requirements for the Position
Must be currently enrolled as a student in good academic standing
  • Preferred major in Marketing, Mass Communication, Public Relations, Business, Digital Media, or related field
  • Sophomore or Junior preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions
  • Professional demeanor, punctuality, and reliability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) preferred
  • Familiarity with website editing systems
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Must have reliable transportation to the SHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine in Conroe, Texas
  • Available to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., based on class schedule
  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required for special events
  • Up to 28 hours per week (typically 20-25 hours)
