Filemaker Consulting information

Is FileMaker difficult to learn?

FileMaker consulting involves working with the FileMaker platform, which has a user-friendly interface and uses a visual development environment. While some programming knowledge and understanding of database concepts can help, many users find it accessible to learn with training and practice, especially for creating custom solutions and automations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a FileMaker Consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a FileMaker Consultant, you need expertise in database design, scripting, and solution development, typically supported by experience with FileMaker Pro and platform certifications. Familiarity with integration tools, APIs, and understanding of Claris FileMaker certifications are highly valuable. Strong problem-solving skills, effective client communication, and project management abilities help consultants deliver tailored solutions and maintain client relationships. These competencies are critical to ensuring efficient, customized database solutions that meet diverse business needs and drive client satisfaction.

What is FileMaker consulting?

FileMaker consulting involves providing expert guidance, development, and support for FileMaker software solutions. Consultants help businesses design, build, and optimize custom database applications tailored to their unique needs using the FileMaker platform. They often assist with integrations, data migrations, troubleshooting, training, and ongoing maintenance to ensure efficient workflow and data management. FileMaker consultants can work with organizations of any size to streamline processes and improve productivity.

How much does a FileMaker developer make?

A FileMaker developer's salary typically ranges from $60,000 to $100,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and certifications. Senior developers with advanced skills in scripting and database design can earn higher salaries, especially in enterprise environments or with specialized consulting expertise.

What are some common challenges faced by Filemaker Consultants when working with clients’ legacy databases?

Filemaker Consultants often encounter legacy databases that may lack documentation, contain outdated scripts, or use deprecated features. Navigating and updating these systems requires strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to reverse-engineer existing solutions. Consultants must also communicate effectively with clients to gather requirements and ensure data integrity during migration or upgrades. Collaborating with stakeholders and providing training are key to successfully modernizing legacy Filemaker systems while minimizing disruptions.

Skills in relational database concepts, troubleshooting, and familiarity with scripting languages like JavaScript or SQL are also valuable. Additionally, problem-solving abilities and experience with data management tools enhance effectiveness in this role.

Job description

We are looking for a full-time Senior Cloud Architect to join our client-centered team and support our growing AWS Practice. This position offers the flexibility of fully remote work.
As a Senior Cloud Architect on our AWS team, you will serve as both a sales liaison and technical lead across a portfolio of cloud native projects. You will help identify and land new AWS engagements, lead technical discovery conversations, and design infrastructure solutions that meet diverse client needs. Beyond traditional architecture responsibilities, you will actively participate in code development, drive solution design from requirements through deployment, and contribute to Soliant's presence within the AWS APN Partner network. Acting as both a trusted client advisor and internal technical authority, you will partner closely with project managers, business analysts, and fellow developers on your Client Services Team to evaluate new opportunities, estimate work, and deliver high-quality cloud solutions that dramatically improve your clients' businesses.
About Soliant
Soliant Consulting is a full-service, award-winning technology consulting and development company serving SMBs throughout the United States and internationally. We offer custom native web applications as well as services across the AWS, Salesforce, and Claris/FileMaker platforms. Founded in 2004, our company has been a Claris Platinum Partner for many years, became a Salesforce Partner in 2009, and achieved AWS Advanced Partner status in 2021, demonstrating our focus on helping our clients innovate and presenting an immense opportunity for growth for you.
As Trusted Advisors, we take a consultative approach in helping our clients solve problems and drive efficiency. We serve as partners to help clients anticipate the future of their businesses and build powerful digital solutions to keep them ahead of the game.
At Soliant, we cultivate a vibrant culture of smart, fun, collaborative, and interesting people working together to build technology that empowers our clients to thrive. We invest in our team members through our employee-ownership model, mentorship program, and focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
We offer a fully remote work environment to all our employees, along with travel options for visiting clients and colleagues. Soliant leadership prioritizes opportunities for in-person cultural touchpoints throughout the year; our annual three-day Offsite is a team favorite. It's not surprising that for three years running, we've been recognized nationally as a Best & Brightest Company to Work For®.
People who join Soliant tend to stay with us for the long haul - we have an extremely low turnover rate of three percent, well below the industry average. Our clients love to stay with us as well; 80% of our annual revenue comes from repeat business from existing clients.
Cloud Sales Engineer
Qualified candidates will have hands on experience designing and deploying AWS infrastructure solutions and demonstrated success with AWS sales. AWS specialty or professional certification required.
Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose
Are you looking to shift gears from the enterprise hustle grind to a boutique software consultancy where you can really make a difference and move the needle?
You're in luck! Our team is small, and our culture is optimized for people who want to make an impact - you'll have freedom to make decisions about what we should do and how. You have significant autonomy to tune and improve our mature architectural and process standards. As consultants, we work on a variety of cloud native applications each year, so you won't get stuck in a rut. We hire people who know how to get the job done and who are always striving to improve things.
You will work on identifying and landing several diverse projects per year. We focus on a consistent process for gathering and defining requirements to avoid the typical chaos of startups, which pairs nicely with opportunities to start fresh periodically and evolve with the state of the art.
We support many professional development options, such as attendance at conferences and sponsorship for training and certification efforts.
Our company also supports contributing back to OSS, and we have a philanthropic committee that selects organizations making a difference in the world for development grants. If you are motivated by these types of things, you are encouraged to take part. This job is very much what you make of it.
Our Tech Stack
We aren't over-concerned with exactly which platforms and technologies you have experience with so long as you have solid experience developing modern AWS solutions and are able to adapt to established standards and practices.
We are intentionally somewhat opinionated so that we can gain common experience and support each other on various projects. The technical components we select for a typical client project naturally tend to evolve over time along with changes in the industry. We currently favor the following on our client projects:
  • DevOps and associated AWS tools
  • Migration Workload Analysis tool sets
  • Lambda and/or Fargate
  • CDK (Cloud Development Kit)
  • DynamoDB and RDS PostrgeSQL
  • Git (Bitbucket and GitHub)

Responsibilities
As a Cloud Sales Engineer, you'll work as a sales liaison and tech lead on a Client Services Team (CST) that handles a portfolio of cloud native projects. CSTs generally also include a Business Analyst, a Project Manager, and other developers.
You'll take part in Soliant's internal tech forums, contribute to the growth of your CST, and help with continual refinement and improvement of best practices as the industry moves forward.
As a reliable self-starter who consults effectively and lands and structures new work, you'll deliver significant value for appreciative clients, and you'll share in the effort to dramatically improve your clients' businesses.
  • Active participation as a Sales Liaison to help evaluate and estimate new work
  • Active participation in outreach for new work, including webinars and other collaborative sales events
  • Active participation with the AWS APN Partner network to increase Soliant's branding, standing, and land work
  • Collaborative identification of client requirements
  • Technical design of solutions to meet those requirements
  • Actively participate in code development, architecture, PR, merge, and deployment for code solutions to fulfill groomed User Stories
  • Actively take part in Agile Scrum process with other members of your Client Services Team
  • Proactive daily time tracking and excellent business mechanics

Requirements for a successful candidate
  • Minimum 3-5 years as an AWS developer with recent experience designing and delivering solutions on AWS
  • Minimum of 3-5 years in relevant technologies (refer to list above)
  • Hands-on development experience in several mid-size AWS solutions
  • Effective communication with co-workers and customers
  • Experience as a team leader with a mentoring mindset
  • Eligible to work in the US
  • AWS specialty or professional level certification required
  • Experience with AWS APN partnership programs (preferred qualification)
