Figma Designer information

What is a Figma designer?

A Figma Designer is a professional who specializes in using Figma, a collaborative web-based design tool, to create user interfaces, prototypes, and design systems for digital products such as websites and mobile apps. They work closely with product managers, developers, and other designers to visualize concepts, design user experiences, and ensure design consistency. Figma Designers leverage the platform's collaborative features to streamline feedback and iterate designs efficiently. Their expertise includes UI/UX principles, prototyping, and often some knowledge of front-end development.

How does a Figma designer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a product development cycle?

As a Figma Designer, you will regularly collaborate with product managers, developers, and other designers to ensure cohesive and efficient design implementation. This often involves participating in design sprints, sharing prototypes for feedback, and conducting handoff meetings where detailed design specs are communicated to developers. Figma’s real-time collaboration features make it easy to gather input and iterate quickly, but it also means strong communication and flexibility are key to success. Expect to attend regular stand-ups, design reviews, and brainstorming sessions to align your work with the broader team’s objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Figma designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Figma Designer, you need strong expertise in UI/UX design principles, visual design, and a portfolio demonstrating hands-on experience with digital products. Proficiency in Figma itself, as well as familiarity with design systems, prototyping tools, and sometimes basic front-end technologies, is essential. Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills help you work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. These abilities ensure that designs are not only visually appealing but also user-centered, functional, and efficiently integrated into modern product development workflows.

What is the difference between Figma Designer vs UI Designer?

AspectFigma DesignerUI Designer
Primary FocusCreating interactive prototypes and designing interfaces using FigmaDesigning visual elements and layouts for digital products
Tools & SkillsFigma, prototyping, collaboration featuresAdobe XD, Sketch, visual design, branding
Work EnvironmentCollaborative, often remote, using cloud-based toolsDesign studios, agencies, or in-house teams
Common Industry UsageWeb and app interface design, prototypingVisual design, branding, user interface creation

While both roles involve digital design, a Figma Designer specializes in creating interactive prototypes and interfaces primarily using Figma, emphasizing collaboration and prototyping. A UI Designer focuses on visual aesthetics, branding, and layout design, often using tools like Adobe XD or Sketch. Both roles are essential in product development but differ in their core responsibilities and tools used.

Are Figma designers in demand?

Figma designers are in high demand as many companies prioritize user experience and digital product design. Proficiency in Figma, along with skills in UI/UX design and collaboration tools, increases job opportunities in this field.

How to be a Figma designer?

To become a Figma designer, you should learn the Figma design tool through tutorials and practice, develop skills in UI/UX design, and build a portfolio of your work. Familiarity with design principles, user experience, and collaboration features in Figma is essential, and gaining experience through projects or internships can enhance your prospects.

Job description

Hi, I’m Brayden, Founder at Sola,

Millions of homeowners can no longer get affordable home insurance, and the process is often confusing, slow, and frustrating. We invented a first-of-its-kind weather data-driven wind and hail policy that reduces fraud and enables more people to get covered at a price that actually makes sense.

We are already live, growing fast, and partnering with thousands of agencies. Now we need to scale the software experience to match the opportunity.

At Sola, you will design the product experience that enables agents to protect more homeowners and move faster, and helps people get through claims with confidence and clarity. If you love building simple, high-quality software that real people depend on, I look forward to meeting you.

Brayden

----

TLDR Checklist

In person. Nice West Midtown Atlanta office with skyline views + daily catering + snacks

Startup environment. 20 employees, ground floor opportunity with equity.

Hyper growth. 400%+ since May

Flat structure. No layers upon layers of management. Work directly with leadership

Long-term vision. This is the founder's life's work; we're building for decades

---

About the Role

In this role, you will own product interface design across our ecosystem, including agent tools, policyholder experiences, and internal platforms. You will work closely with product and engineering from discovery through implementation, shaping flows, interactions, and systems that prioritize clarity, consistency, and long-term quality.

This role has meaningful ownership over core product surfaces and will help shape how Sola’s platform evolves as we scale.

You will also contribute to the patterns and design systems that allow Sola to scale while maintaining a high bar for usability and visual craft.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and ship clear, intuitive product interfaces across multiple user types

  • Own end-to-end user flows from concept through implementation

  • Partner closely with product managers and engineers to balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints

  • Use research, testing, and product metrics to inform and improve designs

  • Contribute to and evolve Sola’s design system and shared UI patterns

  • Maintain a high standard of interface quality across visual design, interaction design, and usability

You’ll Fit Right In If You
  • Have 3+ years of experience as an in-house product designer working on shipped products

  • Have a portfolio demonstrating strong product thinking and interface design, especially in simplifying complex systems

  • Can design across levels of fidelity from high-level flows to detailed interactions

  • Bring a structured approach to design using research, principles, and clear rationale

  • Have experience collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, and designers

  • Understand how design supports adoption, usability, and long-term product quality

  • Communicate clearly and present your work well

  • Have strong visual and interface design skills focused on hierarchy, clarity, and consistency

What you bring
  • Experience designing complex, data-driven products or interfaces with multiple user types

  • Experience contributing to or evolving a design system across multiple product surfaces

  • Strong collaboration with engineers to ensure designs are feasible, maintainable, and consistent

  • Familiarity with accessibility and responsive design best practices

  • Experience with modern design and prototyping tools such as Figma or similar

  • Experience creating prototypes using code or code-adjacent tools (Cursor, Framer, React, or similar) to validate complex interactions

Benefits
  • Competitive salary with bonus ($100k-$125k)

  • Stock options

  • Medical, dental & vision insurance

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Dynamic work culture that promotes growth, collaboration, and risk-taking

Why This Role Matters

You’ll be joining a team that’s reimagining an industry most people find frustrating. While traditional insurance companies are stuck in outdated processes, you’ll help build software that agents and homeowners actually want to use.

This is a chance to make a real impact in a space that affects millions of people, while working with cutting-edge technology in a collaborative, growth-focused environment.

Ready to help us change how people think about insurance?
