Figma Designer information

What is a Figma Designer?

A Figma Designer is a professional who specializes in using Figma, a collaborative web-based design tool, to create user interfaces, prototypes, and design systems for digital products such as websites and mobile apps. They work closely with product managers, developers, and other designers to visualize concepts, design user experiences, and ensure design consistency. Figma Designers leverage the platform's collaborative features to streamline feedback and iterate designs efficiently. Their expertise includes UI/UX principles, prototyping, and often some knowledge of front-end development.

What is the difference between Figma Designer vs UI Designer?

AspectFigma DesignerUI Designer
Primary FocusCreating interactive prototypes and designing interfaces using FigmaDesigning visual elements and layouts for digital products
Tools & SkillsFigma, prototyping, collaboration featuresAdobe XD, Sketch, visual design, branding
Work EnvironmentCollaborative, often remote, using cloud-based toolsDesign studios, agencies, or in-house teams
Common Industry UsageWeb and app interface design, prototypingVisual design, branding, user interface creation

While both roles involve digital design, a Figma Designer specializes in creating interactive prototypes and interfaces primarily using Figma, emphasizing collaboration and prototyping. A UI Designer focuses on visual aesthetics, branding, and layout design, often using tools like Adobe XD or Sketch. Both roles are essential in product development but differ in their core responsibilities and tools used.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Figma Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Figma Designer, you need strong expertise in UI/UX design principles, visual design, and a portfolio demonstrating hands-on experience with digital products. Proficiency in Figma itself, as well as familiarity with design systems, prototyping tools, and sometimes basic front-end technologies, is essential. Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills help you work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. These abilities ensure that designs are not only visually appealing but also user-centered, functional, and efficiently integrated into modern product development workflows.

How does a Figma Designer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a product development cycle?

As a Figma Designer, you will regularly collaborate with product managers, developers, and other designers to ensure cohesive and efficient design implementation. This often involves participating in design sprints, sharing prototypes for feedback, and conducting handoff meetings where detailed design specs are communicated to developers. Figma’s real-time collaboration features make it easy to gather input and iterate quickly, but it also means strong communication and flexibility are key to success. Expect to attend regular stand-ups, design reviews, and brainstorming sessions to align your work with the broader team’s objectives.

Fixed fee for short term contract: USD $1,500 (Contractor - paid via bank direct deposit)
Employment type: Contractor (fixed-price project)

Short-term elite contract - world-class design urgently required

We are seeking an exceptional product UI/UX designer to elevate our whitelabel health and medically inclined app ecosystem to a truly worldclass product. You will take ownership of design strategy, ensure every screen and interaction is beautiful, functional and engaging, and provide daily direction to our internal design team. The role combines creative vision with handson execution: you will research leading apps, build a robust Figma design system using variables and design tokens, and coach our team of designers so we deliver an Agrade user experience across mobile, tablet and desktop. The aim is to design an app that people love so much they engage often, leading to better health outcomes and strong business returns.

Good design is not optional - studies show that every $1 invested in user experience returns $100 and that companies implementing top design practices grow twice as fast as their peers Gamification can further increase customer engagement by 47 % and loyalty by 22 %. We want a designer who understands the impact design has on retention, ROI and customer loyalty and can deliver experiences that keep users coming back.

Responsibilities
  • Lead design strategy and direction - Audit our existing app, identify weaknesses, and propose improvements using inspiration from topperforming health and consumer apps. Provide clear creative direction to the team via voice memos or screen recordings.
  • Refine a Figma design system using variables, tokens and components - Implement a structured design token hierarchy. Figma variables store reusable values for colours, spacing and typography and update all instances when changed. This centralisation improves flexibility, speed and consistency. You will ensure a semantic token structure is documented with naming conventions across design and development teams.
  • Multibrand theming (whitelabel support) - Use Figma variables and tokens to support theme variations so that multiple brands can share a common design foundation. Modern workflows bridge design and engineering by exporting tokens to JSON and supporting multibrand theming.
  • Glassmorphic and advanced UI techniques - Demonstrate expertise in glassmorphism visual design style. You'll leverage opacity, blur and gradientsto build modern, elegant UIs while maintaining accessibility.
  • Gamification and user engagement - Design reward systems, progress bars, checklists and other gamelike elements to increase engagement and retention.
  • Crossplatform design - Ensure pixelperfect, responsive UI for mobile, tablet and desktop are delivered. Maintain parity across form factors and ensure all experiences meet accessibility standards.
  • Mentor and coach - Provide daily guidance to the design team and collaborate with leadership on design reviews. Use voice memos or screenshare videos to communicate complex feedback clearly.
  • Research and trend analysis - Stay uptodate with the latest design innovations in health and wellness, mobile interfaces and gamification. Analyse competitor apps and share actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with engineering - Work closely with PMs and developers to ensure designs are technically feasible and align with our whitelabel architecture.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Portfolio of worldclass apps - Demonstrable experience designing applications that users love. Candidates must show mobile, tablet and desktop projects with strong UI/UX, measurable user engagement and ROI improvements.
  • Expert Figma skills - Mastery of variables, tokens, modes and design systems. Understand how variables can reference each other and update multiple properties at once and how tokens store indivisible design pieces like colours, spacing and typography. Experience exporting token sets for engineering integration.
  • Glassmorphism - Proficiency designing translucent UI with proper use of opacity, background blur and gradients.
  • Gamification - Proven ability to implement reward mechanisms, progression systems and feedback loops that drive engagement and retention.
  • Health and medicine domain experience - Familiarity with behavioural health, wellness or medical apps is preferred.
  • Timezone requirements - Applicants must not be based in the GMT timezones overlapping India and Pakistan. The role collaborates with teams in the America/Los Angeles time zone.
