Job description

Job Description Overview and Impact Homework Hub: Math Edition is a new program launching in Fall 2026 at Appleton Public Library designed to help teens build confidence and skills in teens in the area of mathematics. Math tutoring volunteers will provide after-school homework assistance to teens in grades 6-12 with a special focus on arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. APL offers free access to space, computers with internet access, wi-fi, and digital resources.

Examples of Duties Responsibilities and Expectations: Provide 1:1 assistance to middle school and high school teens looking to strengthen or build their math skills. Help students understand math homework and assignments. Break down complex concepts into simple, easy-to-follow steps.

Offer helpful study tips when appropriate. Refer students to free academic online resources when possible. Typical Qualifications Qualifications and Commitment: Passionate about helping teens in our community.

Proficient in basic arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. Previous or current teaching, tutoring or work experience using math is desirable but not required. Build and maintain a patient, encouraging, and positive learning environment.

Strong communication skills and a friendly, approachable attitude. Predictable attendance; able to commit to 2 hours a week on Wednesdays from 4pm-6pm during the school term. A designated study space and materials to help support volunteers will be provided.
