Summary 

Drive growth and strengthen farmer partnerships across a dedicated region as a Field Agent supporting Niman Ranch's Live Operations team. In this role, you will recruit and support farmers, assist with new farmer start-ups, provide short- and long-term weaned pig shipment projections, and support the contracting process to help ensure operational success. You will serve as a trusted resource to farmers while building strong relationships and helping drive long-term network growth. This role is ideal for a highly organized, relationship-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about supporting sustainable livestock production. 

Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Recruiting & Retention: This position will assist in recruiting new farmers (farrow-to-wean) into the Niman Ranch farmers' network. 
  • Field Agent should actively explore and pursue all avenues to increase the company farmer base to include, but not limited to, feed companies/co-ops/feed mills, genetic companies, trade events, local banks, and leads from existing farmers. 
  • Customer Service: Field Agent will work to retain all current and assist new Niman Ranch farmers by providing excellent service and communication. 
  • Field Agent will help farmers improve their operations to become more financially productive. 
  • Farmer Contracts: Field Agent will promote Niman Ranch farmer contracts. 
  • Farm Visits: Field Agent will visit each farm in their territory a minimum of six (6) times per year, unless extenuating circumstances require more frequency. 
  • Field Agent may assist in breed training, piglet processing training, or any other necessary means of helping a farmer be successful. 
  • Projections: Field Agent will obtain projected shipment number of weaned pigs for each farmer, as necessary. 
  • Travel: Travel is required to visit farms within, but not limited to, the states of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New York. 
  • Some overnight travel is required. 
  • Other duties assigned, as necessary. 

Minimum Education and Experience 

  • Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in an applicable field of study OR have 5+ years of practical swine management experience. 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs and have the ability to learn a web-based database. 
  • Computer proficiency is required. 
  • Must possess extremely skillful communication and organizational skills. 
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license. 
  • Must have the ability to productively work from a home-based office and perform the travel required within set territory. 

Preferred Education and Experience 

  • Swine production experience, especially centered around sow production, is preferred. 

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors 

  • Able to stand for several hours. 
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. 
  • Willing and able to work in wet and extremely cold or hot conditions. 
  • Willing and able to work around dust, feathers, animals and various cleaning chemicals.
